My Hero Academia Sparks Debate After a Promo Retcons One of Deku's Key Features
Following the official conclusion of the My Hero Academia manga, fans have been eagerly seeking new content related to this beloved franchise. The world created by Kohei Horikoshi left a mark unlike any other in the industry, and followers are still not ready to let go of the story and characters of the series.
Regrettably, not all the news about the franchise’s latest projects has been received with the same level of acceptance. The recently revealed cover of the My Hero Academia Ultra Age special volume was heavily criticized for how different Deku looks from his epilogue design. One of the major missing details is the hero’s forehead scar, causing fans to wonder if the decision should remain or be changed to fit the canon.
Deku’s Latest Depiction Causes Havoc Among Fans
The Missing Forehead Scar Divided Readers
On April 7, the cover for the upcoming My Hero Academia Ultra Age special volume was revealed. The illustration created for this exciting new entry in the franchise depicts Deku as well as the other amazing members of Class 1-A wearing their costumes in the back. Fans noticed that the protagonist, unlike the rest of his friends, was not wearing his usual attire but rather the mech suit gifted to him by his classmates at the end of chapter #430. This implied that the Izuku seen on the cover was supposed to be the adult version of the character.

How Does Deku's Armored Suit Replicate His Quirks? My Hero Academia Is Finally Telling Us
My Hero Academia's new databook is revealing how Deku's special suit works with new art, prompting fan interpretations of the suit's abilities.
Nonetheless, fans quickly noticed that this version of the character lacked the forehead scar the hero got during his final battle against Shigaraki. The mark under his right eye remained, but there was no sign of the one on top of it. Readers quickly took to social media to share their displeasure at the new illustration, claiming that the changes were inconsistent with the manga. Others pointed out that the scar could be hidden by the hair, as seen in the real ending of the series, chapter #431.
Since the release of the cover, the fandom has been divided, with many claiming the final designs should have been respected and others claiming that the lack of a scar is not significant. Besides the mark on his face, the illustration of Ultra Age confused fans due to the main character looking much younger. Deku’s appearance is much more like his high school self than the adult hero readers met during the canon epilogue.
Deku’s Suit Is Universally Beloved
The Fandom Loved How the Costume Was Depicted
Although Deku’s design did not please a large group of fans, the mech suit used by the hero on the cover of the special volume was warmly received. Fans had been hoping to see this advanced piece of support gear from a better angle for many months. This is one of the few full-body images of Izuku wearing his costume, and the picture also includes many details that were not introduced before. While the face of the character is still a subject of debate among My Hero Academia fans, the mech suit has never looked better, and readers truly appreciate this.
