My So-Called Life Creator & Claire Danes Reunite For New Series Over 30 Years Later
The My So-Called Life series creator is likely reuniting with Claire Danes for a new series called The Applebaum Curse. Danes debuted as 15-year-old Angela Chase in the 1994 series, where she played a teenager plagued by the typical issues of her formative years. The 1990s series was created by Winnie Holzman and ran for a single 19-episode season. My So-Called Life was well-reviewed and was nominated for four Emmy Awards.
As per an interview on thered carpet for the WGA awards (viaVariety), Danes and Holzman are looking to team up again for a new HBO drama. This show, The Applebaum Curse, will be developed by HBO. The series will be a family drama whose logline describes it as an "ongoing one-hour drama series about a dysfunctional family with Claire Danes as the lead role." Danes is set to star in the series and executive produce. Holzman will be a writer, executive producer, and showrunner. When Holzman was asking about whether she would consider a My So-Called Life reboot, she said the following:
It’s interesting that you’re asking me that. I am writing something that I’m hoping to do with Claire. It’s not a reboot in the traditional sense, but I think Claire Danes and I back together would be a kind of version of that.
It’s a completely different story. But we’re hopeful that we’re gonna work together again. I’m writing it now, and it’s hopefully gonna be at HBO, so we’ll see. I have to cross my fingers! You never know what’s gonna happen, but Claire would love to do this with me, so I’m excited.
