Mythic Quest's Apple TV+ Spinoff Debuts With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Side Quest has debuted with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. The four-episode miniseries is a spinoff of the Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest, which follows the work and personal lives of those employed to develop the titular fictional MMO video game. The workplace comedy features Rob McElhenney, Charlotte Nicdao, Ashly Burch, Jessie Ennis, Danny Pudi, and Imani Hakim. Mythic Quest season 4 wrapped up on March 26, the same day that Apple TV+ launched the spinoff series Side Quest.
Now, the Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed for Side Quest, boasting a perfect 100% approval rating among the critics who have seen it so far. This score is subject to change, as there are only 11 reviews for the series. Likewise, the Mythic Quest spinoff has yet to amass enough reviews for an audience score, as fewer than 50 people have rated it.
What This Means For The Mythic Quest Franchise
This Is Good For Mythic Quest Season 5
Side Quest's perfect Tomatometer makes it tied for the top-rated installment of the Mythic Quest franchise. While the show has been well-received as a whole, it has boasted two other perfectly scored seasons, with season 2 and season 4 also getting 100% scores. Even at its lowest, the flagship series still has a solid positive rating. However, the Mythic Quest audiences have not always agreed with the critics, with the most recent season getting only a 60% Popcornmeter. For this reason, it will be interesting to see how audiences respond to Side Quest.
Mythic Quest Franchise Season Ratings | ||
---|---|---|
Mythic Quest Season / Series | RT Tomatometer | RT Popcornmeter |
Mythic Quest Season 1 | 90% | 87% |
Mythic Quest Season 2 | 100% | 85% |
Mythic Quest Season 3 | 95% | 75% |
Mythic Quest Season 4 | 100% | 60% |
Side Quest | 100% | TBD |
Side Quest's good reviews are also a good sign for Mythic Quest season 5. While a renewal is still pending, the positive reception of its two most recent installments bodes well for the Apple TV+ show's continuation. The fourth season ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, leaving the future of leads Ian and Poppy's relationship in a delicate state. The spinoff series, especially if widely watched by viewers, could be an easy ticket for the main show to get renewed, and for other one-off episodes like those in Side Quest to be created in the meantime.
Our Take On Side Quest
I Was Impressed With The Series Overall
I personally had the pleasure of writing the Side Quest review for ScreenRant, giving it 7 out of 10 stars. While there were some fluctuations in quality throughout its four episodes, I had a lot of fun with the spinoff overall. Ever since season 1's incredible "A Dark Quiet Death," one-off episodes have always been at the core of what makes Mythic Quest unique and what best connects the show to the network of passionate creatives working in the gaming industry. Exploring multiple facets of game creation, Side Questcaptures this spirit well.
