Transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports Walter Mazzarri could be sacked even before Wednesday’s Champions League game against Barcelona as there are ongoing talks with Slovakia national team coach Francesco Calzona.
Mazzarri’s position at the Stadio Maradona is under scrutiny following a 1-1 draw against Genoa on Saturday.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Mazzarri will be given a last chance against Barcelona on Wednesday, but Football Italia transfer expert Matteo Moretto says the Tuscan tactician could be sacked even before next week’s European meeting.
According to Moretto, the defending Serie A champions have begun negotiations with Italian coach Francesco Calzona, who is in charge of Slovakia’s national team and with whom he qualified for Euro 2024.
Calzona has already worked at Napoli as an assistant to Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti.
Moretto reports that the 55-year-old would not step down as Slovakia’s coach but would remain in charge of the national team during the last three months of the season.
