Naruto Owes One of Its OG Heroes a Power Up After Years of Being Denied
The Naruto franchise keeps causing hype among the fanbase as its story continues getting more intense with its sequel series. After the exciting events of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #18, fans cannot wait for the next entry to be released. The need for more story has only increased thanks to a stunning fanart, one that tricked many fans into believing that they were real.
These illustrations, created by the artist @Yokigeru, did more than just fan the flames of excitement among the fandom. They have also made followers of the series question why Konohamaru has not been given access to the Summoning Jutsu. There is no real reason why Naruto’s pupil was never taught how to use one of the Naruto franchise’s signature and coolest abilities.
Konohamaru Should Have Learned the Summoning Jutsu Years Ago
The Jutsu Is Part of Naruto’s Legacy
The illustrations uploaded to social media by Yokigeru depict Konohamaru being attacked by an enraged Matsuri. The fan leaks are supposedly placed right after their disastrous conversation in chapter #18 of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, with the Divine Tree claiming that she will destroy him for rejecting her love. As Matsuri is about to attack again, Konohamaru utilizes the Summoning Technique, one of the most powerful Jutsu in Naruto history, invoking a monkey to fight by his side, like the one that accompanied his grandfather in the past.
The quality of the artwork was so high that many fans believed these were official leaks, which only served to cause chaos among the fandom. Fans were more excited than usual, seeing Konohamaru reveal which tribe he signed a Summoning Contract with was an unexpected but amazing occurrence. While these leaks might not have been real, they did help the fan base begin questioning why the Summoning Jutsu was never taught to Konohamaru. This unique and powerful technique was one of Naruto’s signature Jutsu during his youth, so it would make sense that he would want to teach Konohamaru.
The Seventh Hokage has been unofficially training the Third’s grandson ever since the two were young, helping him become the capable, powerful, and kind adult he is in Boruto. Yet, despite how much more training Naruto could have put him through as they grew up, he seemingly never thought about mentioning the Summoning Jutsu. As one of Naruto’s oldest pupils and friends, Konohamaru should have been given the option to learn this useful technique, as it is a great tool for any Jonin to have. The fake leaks just prove how incredible it would be for him to know it.
Naruto Should Have Continued His Teachers’ Tradition
Since Hiruzen, Each New Student Was Instructed in How To Summon
Another reason why Konohamaru not knowing about the Summoning technique has been so shocking for fans is the fact that this technique is a part of his grandfather’s traditions. Before becoming the Third Hokage, Hiruzen proved himself as one of the best teachers in Naruto by training the Legendary Sannin. As part of their lessons, all the members of the trio were taught how to use the Summoning Jutsu, which would become a key part of their legacy. Years later, Jiraiya instructed Naruto, passing on his teacher’s legacy and preparing his godson for combat.
Even though this technique is a part of Hiruzen and Jiraiya’s traditions, the manga series has heavily implied that Konohamaru was never instructed to use it, as he has never done so despite ample opportunity. This might have been a major oversight on Naruto’s part, as he has now broken the tradition of teaching the next generation how to invoke their allies. What makes this more frustrating for fans is the evidence of Naruto teaching Konohamaru about his most important techniques, like the Rasengan or the Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Konohamaru Has a Right To Learn the Sarutobi Clan’s Secrets
The Monkey Tribe Contract Is Waiting for Him
While the Third Hokage was known for his various accomplishments and, according to fans, for being one of Konoha's worst leaders, he was also famous for his powerful techniques. One of the most popular ones was his predilection to summon the Monkey King, Enma, to help him during arduous fights, such as his final battle against Orochimaru. Although never stated in the series, it was heavily implied that the contract with the Monkey Tribe was an heirloom kept safe by Hiruzen. As such, it would be reasonable to assume that it should have been given to Konohamaru.
Naruto’s pupil has a right to be informed about his grandfather’s relationship with the Monkey King and tries to gain his respect, just like Jiraiya did for the Seventh when he was younger. The fake leaks created by Yokigeru do imply that the artist sees this as a logical conclusion, and his art has inspired many fans to believe the same. Konohamaru keeping the legacy of his grandfather’s Summoning Technique alive would have been an incredible way to give him a much-needed power-up and honor the memory of the Third.
Naruto fans will continue anxiously awaiting news about the Boruto:Two Blue Vortex manga’s upcoming chapter. Nevertheless, the idea of Konohamaru being given a Summon of his own in future chapters will be difficult for the fandom to forget. Maybe in the future, the Third’s grandson can continue his family’s legacy with a monkey pal by his side.
