Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Is Confirmed To Return In Another DC Universe Project After He Debuts In James Gunn's Superman Movie

The DC Universe will see more of Nathan Fillion's upcoming version of Green Lantern after he appears in Superman this summer. As the DCU timeline is getting ready to expand this year with James Gunn's Superman movie, the franchise is also working on numerous TV shows that will connect to the overall franchise, which begins with Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters." One of them is the highly anticipated Lanterns TV show, which will finally bring the Green Lantern mythology back into the world of live-action with the inclusion of multiple famous Emerald Knights.

In a new report from Entertainment Weekly, Fillion's Guy Gardner has now been confirmed to appear in Lanterns season 1, which already features fellow Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre). The HBO drama is currently in production, and at the time of this story's publication, it's unclear how many episodes Fillion will be starring in as his Green Lantern. Lanterns is currently targeting a 2026 premiere launch on HBO and will consist of eight episodes.

What Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern Means For DC's Lanterns Show

While time will tell what will get Guy involved with Lanterns season 1, Fillion's casting reiterates that DC Studios is already looking to embrace crossovers, especially with something as integral as the Green Lantern mythology. It isn't yet clear whether Superman will reveal Guy's storyline within the Lanterns show, but it wouldn't be shocking if the movie at least hints at it. Where he ends the movie could prove to be especially telling.

Superman releases in theaters on July 11.

Even though Guy is being labeled as "the one nobody likes" — a joke shared by Fillion himself on The Jennifer Hudson Show recently — Lanterns may be where the DCU starts to build out his character, showcasing how he is more than just a comic-relief character. Given that Lanterns will feature Hal and John looking into an ancient horror, it wouldn't be shocking to see more of Guy's serious side in the mystery drama. It will definitely be fascinating to see how Fillion's Guy fits in with the Lanterns cast, with this show being the first time he, Hal, and John will share the screen together in live-action.

Now that Fillion is confirmed to return for Lanterns after Superman, it will be exciting to see when he actually appears in the series, as Guy could potentially be saved until sometime later in season 1. Since Lanterns is currently filming, more clues about Guy's arc in the series may be revealed over the next few weeks. Hopefully, additional updates about Lanterns season 1 will start to emerge, including what the titular heroes will look like in their respective Green Lantern costumes.
