Netflix's Western Series With 86% RT Score Cancelled After Just One Season
Netflix may be one of the top producers of streaming content, but their shows do not always last. While the streaming giant boasts some of the most popular series on television, such as Squid Game and Wednesday, a litany of shows doesn't survive on Netflix after a short time. As much as the world of Eleven and her friends on Stranger Things has stunned audiences, the premature cancelation of beloved series like The OA has enraged fans over the years.
Netflix seems to be focusing all its attention on series like Stranger Things season 5 and Wednesday season 2, while letting others fall by the wayside. Often, these cancelations come after just a season or two. For example, the teen action fantasy series Lockwood & Co. got just an eight-episode season in 2023 before being nixed. Series like Altered Carbon and Sense8 met similarly unwelcome demises despite loyal fan bases. Now, yet another Netflix series has come to an end after season 1.
Territory Was Canceled By Netflix
The Series Had Positive Reviews
Netflix's Territory has now officially been canceled after just one season. The 2024 Western series followed the Lawson family and their struggle to find air for their Australian cattle station. The show featured Mindhunter's Anna Torv, Michael Dorman, Robert Taylor, Sam Corlett, Philippa Northeast, Clarence Ryan, and Sarah Wiseman. The debut season was well-liked among critics, leading to an 86% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes and comparisons to Paramount Network's Yellowstone. The audience reviews were less favorable, as the show only had a 53% Popcornmeter.

8 Biggest Similarities Between Yellowstone & Territory
Territory is Netflix's answer to Yellowstone, and the Australian neo-Western has numerous similarities with Paramount's iconic TV series.
Per C21 Media,Territory has officially been cancelled by Netflix. The source noted that there had been rumors of the Australian show's cancellation for weeks, but it was just now finally confirmed. Netflix did not release an official statement as to why the series was not being renewed, but production timing and scheduling issues may have been a significant factor. Netflix ANZ's director of content, Que Minh Luu, also issued a statement, which can be found below:
We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world. Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.
Our Take On Territory's Cancelation
Territory's Low Audience Score Makes This Less Surprising Than Some Previous Cancellations
With another well-reviewed show being canceled, Netflix seems to be continuing its trend of nixing well-received series. This case is a little different since Territory did not have the same appeal from viewers as Lockwood & Co., which had a 94% Popcornmeter. That said, the series performed decently well, reaching the no. 2 slot on Netflix's top English language television chart, making the cast and crew reportedly confident that the show would return. Though this is not the case, hopefully, Quu is genuine in her desire to work with the Territory team again.
