Nobody Wants This Creators' Next Comedy Series Will Be An Adaptation Of 2024 Novel
The creators behind Nobody Wants This have set their next comedy series. The Netflix show, which followed the unlikely romance blossoming between podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and rabbi Noah (Adam Brody), was created by The New Normal writer Erin Foster and executive produced by her sister, 90210 actor Sara Foster. The Nobody Wants This cast also includes Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, Jackie Tohn, Tovah Feldshuh, Sherry Cola, and Stephen Tobolowsky. It debuted at No. 2 on Netflix's weekly chart of their Top 10 English-language series, remaining on the chart for six weeks, and has already been renewed for season 2.
Per Deadline, via their company Fatigue Sisters Productions, Erin and Sar Foster are now set to adapt the 2024 novel Hotter in the Hamptons, which was written by TikTok star Tinx (the mononymous moniker used by Christina Najjar). The book has just been optioned by 20th Television, who were also behind Nobody Wants This. Just like their previous series, both sisters will executive produce and Erin will be the creator. Oly Obst of 3 Arts is also executive producing, as is Tinx. The show is now seeking a writer as development continues.
What This Means For The Nobody Wants This Team's New Show
Hotter In The Hamptons Has Similar Themes
While the show has not yet been written, the plot of the novel offers some insight into the shape that it will take. Just like Nobody Wants This, it focuses on the unexpected connection between two characters who make an unlikely pair. In the process, it delves deep into friendship, romance, drama, reputation, and everything in between. Read the full Goodreads synopsis of the book below:
As New York City's fashion it-girl, Lola has been living her dream. But when her career comes to a screeching halt after a very public snafu, everything Lola has worked for – her loyal following, her designer closet, her perfect boyfriend – starts to go up in flames. And when notorious culture critic Aly Ray Carter lights the final match by writing a scathing exposé, it feels as if Lola has lost it all.
When Lola flees to the Hamptons to escape her mistakes, she expects to spend her summer drinking Minuty by the pool while carefully rebuilding both her confidence and her brand. Instead, she looks over the trimmed hedges to see none other than her rival and newest Aly Ray Carter.
As summer blazes on, Lola is swept into an intoxicating situation with the woman who ruined her life, marred by chaos and confusion as she tries to pinpoint why Aly has her so captivated. She thought the Hamptons would be the perfect place to outrun her mess, but quickly realizes there's no place to run.
It is currently unknown where the new show will air, though it seems possible that Netflix will pursue distributing Hotter in the Hamptons in the wake of the success of Nobody Wants This. Romantic comedy series have been popular across the board on Netflix in the past few months, including the To All the Boys I've Loved Before spinoff XO, Kitty, which was just renewed for season 3. It seems likely that they would pursue more material that falls along the same lines, especially from this creative team.
Our Take On The Hotter In The Hamptons Announcement
It Shouldn't Interfere With Nobody Wants This
At the time of writing, it does not seem that the Fosters' commitment to Hotter in the Hamptons should interfere with the progress of Nobody Wants This season 2. The Netflix series is currently set to begin filming new episodes in early March, at which point the Tinx adaptation will be nowhere close to being ready for production. However, should both shows be renewed for further seasons, the Fosters may have to split their time between shows, which could lead to some behind-the-scenes changes for both.
