Paradise Episode 6 Ending Explained: What Really Happened To Xavier's Wife?
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Paradise season 1, episode 6, "You Asked For Miracles."
Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown) receives shocking information about his wife in Paradise season 1, episode 6, "You Asked For Miracles." In previous episodes, it was established that Xavier's wife, Teri (Enuka Okuma) did not make it to the underground city with her husband and children, and was presumed to have been killed by the cataclysmic event on the surface. With Xavier and many of Paradise's characters fixated on whether some of their loved ones might still be alive on the surface, President Cal Bradford (James Marsden) sent a team of scientists to investigate.
Paradise episode 4's ending revealed that despite the apocalyptic devastation that occurred, the surface is still habitable, although Samantha "Sinatra" Redmond (Julianne Nicholson) ensured that this information did not get back to Paradise's citizens. The revelation about the surface planted the seeds for Teri's potential survival. After challenging Sinatra in Paradise episode 5's ending, he comes face-to-face with her in the final moments of episode 6, and she claims that Teri is still alive.
Is Sinatra Telling The Truth About Xavier’s Wife Being Alive?
It Has Already Been Established That There Are Survivors On The Surface
Not only is the surface still habitable, but there are recordings of the scientists mentioning that they encountered survivors during their missions. Given these reveals, it is plausible that Sinatra is telling the truth about Teri being alive. Episode 6's flashbacks demonstrate how Teri is a courageous, fearless, and highly educated individual. These are traits that would serve her well in figuring out how to survive Paradise's world-ending event and to continue surviving for years in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

There's A Big Harsh Reality About Paradise's Villain That Has To Be Addressed After Episode 5
Samantha Redmond might be the central villain of Paradise, but her grim reasoning for some of her harshest decisions actually have some merit.
While Teri may be alive, Sinatra knowing about her survival is questionable. Sinatra ordered the scientists not to bring back any survivors they found and she had Billy Pace (Jon Beavers) kill all the scientists. She knows there are survivors out there, but may not know that Teri is one of them, let alone know where Teri currently is on the surface. With Sinatra's life and all of Paradise threatened by Xavier and his rebellion, it seems more likely that Sinatra is using Teri to try and manipulate him, although given what Sinatra knows, Teri could definitely still be alive.
What Sinatra’s Admission Means For Paradise’s Murder Mystery
Someone Else Is Responsible For President Bradford's Death
In addition to telling Xavier that his wife is alive, Sinatra admits that she had Billy killed, but claims that she had nothing to do with President Bradford's death. If she is willing to tell Xavier the truth about ordering the murder of his best friend, there is little reason for her to lie about what happened to President Bradford. With two Paradise season 1 episodes left, this means that the killer is still at large and still needs to be found. Sinatra was too obvious of a suspect, but her being the mastermind behind the president's death did make sense.
If Sinatra had nothing to do with the president's death, though, there may be someone even more powerful and dangerous than her in Paradise.
Season 1 has depicted Sinatra as the most powerful and dangerous character, especially with the murderous Jane Driscoll (Nicole Brydon Bloom) working for her. If Sinatra had nothing to do with the president's death, though, there may be someone even more powerful and dangerous than her in Paradise. As suggested by Dr. Gabriela Torabi (Sarah Shahi), the only way to save Paradise may be for Xavier and Sinatra to work together, and this may also be the only way for them to discover who really killed President Bradford.

Another possibility is that no one killed the president, and he instead took his own life and made it look like he had been murdered. Episode 5's flashbacks reveal how he was trying to reveal the truth about the surface and that he felt abandoned by all his loved ones. Perhaps he knew that his death would be the only way to bring his son, Jeremy (Charlie Evans), Xavier, Agent Robinson (Krys Marshall), and others together to investigate and learn the truth.
Xavier’s Plan In Paradise Episode 6 Explained
He Wanted To Force Sinatra's Hand
Carl (Richard Robichaux), putting the message "They Are Lying To You" into the sky was only the first phase of Xavier's plan. While Sinatra and her team remain fixated on the message in the sky, and try and fail to remove it, Robinson goes to where all the guns are held and steals them. During her affair with President Bradford, she learned about the hidden cache of guns and how to access them, which she now puts to good use. Meanwhile, "They Are Lying To You" is only the first of multiple messages projected in the sky.

The political sci-fi thriller is a great sign for TV this year, though it routinely reveals itself to be better on paper than in practice.
One of the later messages is "Who Is Sinatra?", which is shown alongside a countdown. When the countdown ends, explosives are launched, which makes Sinatra shut down the simulated sky, so that everyone can clearly see and be reminded that they are living not in an idyllic community, but in an underground dome. Sinatra and the rest of Paradise's leadership then evacuate. Xavier's plan was meant to force the simulated sky to shut down, thereby forcing Sinatra's hand, getting the community to rally against her, and to corner her into giving answers.
The Flashbacks Reveal Why Xavier Grew To Hate President Bradford
He Broke His Promise To Xavier
Episode 6's flashbacks show President Bradford having Xavier walk through their exit plan from the White House. While President Bradford is unable to share certain government secrets with Xavier, he makes it clear that doomsday is coming soon, and that it would be best for Teri to stop taking flights to and from Atlanta. When Xavier says that his wife is unlikely to listen to him, especially given that he has no concrete details about what is supposedly going to happen to the world, President Bradford says they will pick her up from wherever she is when the time comes.
President Bradford went back on his word, and Xavier was never able to look at or feel the same way about him again.
This explains why Xavier grew to hate the president once they were in Paradise. President Bradford did not keep his promise of picking up Teri, and she was instead left to die. Flying to Atlanta, or wherever Teri was at the time, would not have been feasible, especially with there being limited time to reach Paradise before the cataclysm engulfed everything on the surface. Nevertheless, President Bradford went back on his word, and Xavier was never able to look at or feel the same way about him again, which forever changed their relationship in Paradise.
