Paradise Has Been Hiding Two Major Dangers Inside The Dome All Along

The following contains spoilers for Paradise episode 6, "You Asked For Miracles," now streaming on HuluParadise's plot twists in episode 6 reveal two major dangers to the stability of the domed city have been in plain sight all along, and it's already tearing down the community. Paradise takes place within what is likely to be the last functioning city in the world following a cataclysmic event. Paradise's cast of characters have all been struggling with being among the final survivors of humanity in the last standing American city, which has only grown more difficult in the light of President Cal Bradford's death.

Paradise's sixth episode, "You Asked For Miracles," ups the ante significantly by revealing how quickly the peaceful community could be turned against one another and against the powerful figures controlling the city behind the scenes. Two major revelations that turn out to be fairly obvious in retrospect have been in plain sight all along, possibilities that once realized could completely upend any chance the community has towards rebuilding a new future. These two revelations play right into the plans of Xavier Collins, and could set the stage for a surprisingly bloody finale.

Paradise has secretly had a huge cache of weapons stored away, which allows people like Xavier and Robinson to set off a clear coup against the ruling class of the city. Paradise has subtly teased out the circumstances and situation of the surviving American city. This has included the indication that guns are largely absent from the community, with even high-ranking secret service agents like Robinson using tasers instead. However, as Cal teased in episode 5 and is confirmed in "You Asked For Miracles," there is actually a large cache of weapons hidden in the city.

Samantha Redmond might be the central villain of Paradise, but her grim reasoning for some of her harshest decisions actually have some merit.

The fact that the authorities hid this while arming agents like Jane Driscoll underscores the controlling nature of their rule. The fact that the weapons could also be quickly retrieved with the use of a single high-ranking individual with access to a specific password highlights how readily available they were. This suggests those in power wanted to maintain the ability to recover them quickly, even while telling the populace that none existed. As part of Xavier's efforts to sew discord among Redmond's control of the city, revealing the government had guns could upend the public's trust in the ruling class.

This is far from the only way the ruling class messes with the public in "You Asked For Miracles." To keep her identity a secret from Xavier's messages in the automated sky, Redmond has the artifical skyline shut off. As Gabriela explains, this will have a massive psychological effect on the survivors. By suddenly reminding the public of their situation and the artifical nature of their security, Redmond has undone the unity that Gabriela's town was designed to reinforce. As a shaken Gabriela explains to Redmond, the damage she may have done could permanently psychologically impact the survivors.

It already seems to be having an effect on the town, as the populace is left panicked by this turn. This makes them ideally suited to hear from Jeremy Bradford, who has discovered many of the secrets that the government was hiding. By shattering the illusion they've all bought into and highlighting the actions the upper-class has taken to maintain their control of the city, Redmond might have destroyed any hope of keeping the city united. Now, people like Xavier, Robinson, and Jeremy will find far more receptive audiences to their warnings about Redmond and her allies.

In-Fighting Might Doom Paradise Long Before Outsiders Get Them

Paradise Could Quickly Fall To In-Fighting

Episode 4 and 5 of Paradise revealed that Redmond's greatest fear for their domed city is that outside forces are able to discover their existence and break through to endanger the citizens like her husband and daughter. However, it seems that a much greater danger was posed by the chances for in-fighting. While the pleasant distractions and simple pleasures of the city were able to help distract the populace and starve off conflict between them, the truth about the leadership's flaws might cause enough in-fighting to doom the community long before invaders could ever arrive on the scene.

There's little chance the community [of Paradise] can simply undo the effects of Xavier's revolt and Redmond's efforts to stamp it out.

The brewing conflict between Xavier and Redmond's forces already has the powerful elite captured by what amounts to a revolution spearheaded by the former President's security detail. The current President is seemingly among those captured, and his leadership has never seemed so undercut as when the entire ruling class turns to Redmond instead of him. There's little chance the community can simply undo the effects of Xavier's revolt and Redmond's efforts to stamp it out. If Gabriela is right, then Paradise's city will be unable to simply recover and could fall apart internally.
