Pokémon GO: Dynamax Drilbur Max Battle Guide (Max Mondays)

Dyanmax Drilbur is one of the first creatures in Pokémon GO that you have the chance to battle and capture during Max Mondays, a new type of raid battle. Max Mondays feature Gigantamax Pokémon or massive variants of familiar pocket monsters with greater strength and stamina than those you usually fight. These Pokémon are extremely powerful, so you must understand their weaknesses to achieve victory.

Drilbur is a fairly standard Ground-type Pokémon you can catch and evolve into the strong Steel and Ground-type, Excadrill with enough Candies. The Dynamax version of Drilbur seen in the Max Monday battle is much stronger, using Max Moves to deal massive damage to your Pokémon. You need to prepare to face this powerful Pokémon by bringing strong counters, including your own Dynamax pocket monsters.

Dynamax Drilbur has the same weaknesses and resistances as a normal Drilbur, so you may already know which types work the best against it. For all the types of Pokémon, here are the relationships that Dynamax Drilbur has with every element:

When a Pokémon does not have a relationship with a type, it means that any attack of that type will inflict a normal amount of damage. For example, Dynamax Drilbur reacts neutrally to Steel-type attacks, making moves like Iron Head or Metal Claw knock out decent amounts of the Pokémon's health. However, given the destructive nature of a Dynamax boss, you need to only use super-effective moves.

Pokémon GO: Raid Boss Schedule For March 2025

Pokémon GO is full of tough Raid Bosses in March 2025 for trainers to take down if you have the right counters that are super-effective against them.

The difficulty of Dynamax battles in Pokémon GO means you can't afford to use neutral attacks against Dynamax Drilbur. You should have more than one Pokémon with Grass, Ice, or Water-type attacks to deal the most damage to the Max Mondays boss at every turn. Do not bring Pokémon who use Rock, Poison, or Electric moves either, as these types are resisted and often weak to Drilbur's Max Ground-type attacks.

Dynamax Drilbur Best Counters In Pokémon GO

Bring Another Giant Pokémon To Battle

Max Mondays feature either a one-star or three-star encounter with Dynamax Drilbur, with the higher-star version of the fight being much harder. You will have to team up with a group to take down the Dynamax Pokémon, so be prepared to synergize your counters with other people. Some of the best Pokémon you can use to counter Dynamax Drilbur are:

  • Dynamax Rillaboom
  • Dynamax Venusaur
  • Dynamax Blastoise
  • Dynamax Inteleon
  • Dynamax Metagross
  • Dynamax Charizard

To obtain some of the best counters for Dynamax Drilbur, you need to have participated in past Max Mondays against Gigantamax Blastoise in Pokémon GO or other Dynamax Pokémon to add them to your collection.

You have to bring a Dynamax Pokémon to challenge Dynamax Drilbur, so it makes sense to bring one who can take advantage of the Max Monday boss' weaknesses. Dynamax Rillaboom and Dynamax Venusaur are the best choices for this fight since each of them has powerful Grass-type moves to tear through Drilbur's HP. Any Water-type Dynamax Pokemon also works well here, as they can also exploit Drilbur's vulnerabilities.

Dynamax Metagross and Dynamax Charizard are also decent picks for this fight for different reasons. Charizard's additional Flying-type helps them resist Drilbur's Ground-type moves, while Metagross' sheer bulk will allow it to withstand even super-effective blows from Drilbur. Some other good choices for this fight include Dynamax Gengar, Dynamax Greedent, or even Dynamax Excadrill to battle its previous form.

Pokémon GO: Max Mondays Schedule (March 2025)

With two Dynamax Pokémon making their debuts in Max Mondays this March, you should be looking to take them on in Pokémon GO to catch them.

Once you have a strong team ready to fight Dynamax Drilbur, you need to spend 250 Max Particles (MP) to enter the fight at a Power Spot location. You can use MP to unlock special Max Attacks with your own Dynamax Pokémon, who can then become extremely effective counters against Drilbur. Using a Max Gyser or Max Overgrowth attack will tear into Dynamax Drilbur, greatly depleting its health.

From my personal experience, I have found that using a Water or Grass-type will always lead to victory against Dynamax Drilbur. Despite the boost in power this Pokémon has received as a Max Monday boss, this Pokémon's weaknesses prevent it from ever being a real threat to creatures that counter it strongly. Simply use the right Pokémon or team up with those who have great counters to win every time.

With the right Pokémon at your side, you should be able to team up with other players to earn great rewards from the Max Monday Gigantamax fight. Once you understand how to beat Dynamax Drilbur in Pokémon GO, you can try to farm the Max Battle multiple times to catch a strong version of the Gigantamax battle to fight other giant Pokémon, such as the Poison/Electric-type Toxtricity.
