The blowback from the Derby d’Italia defeat to Inter includes criticism of Max Allegri for the way Federico Chiesa is being used at Juventus.

Chiesa only came off the bench for the final 25 minutes of the 1-0 loss at San Siro and in the last seven rounds made only three cameo appearances as a substitute.

Even in that brief spell on the pitch, he sustained a new injury with a bruised right foot.

Questions are being raised over whether the Italy international, who is now 26, will ever fully recover from the devastating knee injury suffered in January 2022.

Despite spending only 1,185 minutes of Serie A football on the pitch in 18 appearances this season, Chiesa still contributed six goals and two assists.

That is an improvement on the 2022-23 campaign, when he scored four goals in 33 competitive matches.

His contract only runs to June 2025, so if the fitness levels cannot be improved, or if he has fallen behind Kenan Yildiz in the pecking order due to tactical reasons, this all affects his future outlook.

Chiesa is one of the most valuable players in the Juventus squad and a sale this summer seems increasingly likely in the circumstances.

When taking into consideration that Juve are repeatedly linked with Lazio winger Felipe Anderson as a free agent, that again points towards a Chiesa exit.

Chiesa should stay. Allegri should leave. Too boring and defensive.
