Reacher Season 3 Rotten Tomatoes Score Debut Sets New Series Record

Reacherseason 3 has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, and the score sets a new record for the show. Based on the Jack Reacher novel series by author Lee Child, the hit Prime Video series premiered in 2022, introducing Alan Ritchson as the eponymous hero. Reacher season 3, which adapts the events of Child's Persuader, features the title character infiltrating a criminal organization and coming up against Paulie (Olivier Richters), a massive enforcer. Reviews for the show have been glowing so far, setting expectations high for season 3.

Rotten Tomatoes now reveals that Reacher has debuted with an impressive score of 100% from 16 reviews, as of writing. Though this score could fluctuate as more reviews are added, it currently marks the highest-rated season of the show, beating season 2's score of 98%. An audience-driven Popcornmeter score, however, won't arrive for season 3 until after it premieres. Check out a chart comparing the seasons' scores below:

What Season 3's Rotten Tomatoes Score Means For Reacher

Why The Audience Score Could Beat Season 2's

Even if, after more Reacher season 3 reviews are added, the score drops a little, the new episodes continue a strong trend for the show. Every season thus far has been a big win for the streamer, and the show still ranks as one of the most viewed Prime Video originals ever. As for what works so well about season 3, Greg MacArthur's review for ScreenRant highlights that that it feels like a back-to-basics approach with a compelling story:

Fans who loved Reacher seasons 1 and 2, and those who enjoyed Lee Child's Persuader, will have a lot to like about season 3. It's not as expansive or riddled with backstory as season 2 was, which some may find to be a good thing.

The show working for audiences, though, will be key to its success, and there's reason to believe it will. Reacher season 2 reviews were positive, but the season was criticized for the lone-wolf Reacher working extensively as part of a team, in addition to the fight scenes lacking some oomph. With the season 3 storyline putting Reacher back on his own and Ritchson himself recently revealing that a greater emphasis was put on getting Reacher season 3's fight scenes right, the Popcornmeter score for the new episodes could end up being higher than season 2's 76%.

The Show Has A Bright Future Ahead Of It

If Reacher season 3 ends up being a hit with audiences too, it certainly looks like the show could continue well into the future. Clearly, Prime Video and show creator Nick Santora have found a winning formula here, and it's so far one that has worked for both audiences and critics. By fixing some of the issues with season 2, season 3 has the potential to be the best outing for the character yet.

With Reacher season 4 already confirmed to be on the way, the response to season 3 is a promising sign. It's not clear what book from Child's series will be next to be adapted, but Persuader was evidently the right choice for season 3.

Reacher season 3 premieres on Prime Video on February 20.
