Duvan Zapata cancelled out the Andrea Pinamonti opener, as Sassuolo and Torino share the spoils in a result that does little to boost either team’s prospects.

The Neroverdi were in crisis after three consecutive defeats saw them slide towards the drop zone. Domenico Berardi, Cristian Volpato, Jeremy Toljan, Daniel Boloca and Pedro Obiang were injured. Toro missed Alessandro Buongiorno, Karol Linetty and Perr Schuurs on the treatment table, but Koffi Djidji returned to the starting XI.

It took just five minutes to break the deadlock, as Pedersen’s cross from the right found Andrea Pinamonti surprisingly unmarked for a header that bounced off the ground and past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s fingertips.

That did not last long, as Raoul Bellanova got away from Josh Doig down the right and his cross found Duvan Zapata for a cushioned finish off the inside of the left boot at the far post.

Toro lost captain Ricardo Rodriguez to a muscular injury and Duvan Zapata’s daisy-cutter from outside the box shaved a coat of paint off the upright.

So did the Nikola Vlasic angled drive, while Vanja Milinkovic-Savic parried a Nedim Bajrami free kick and the Armand Lauriente strike at the near post.

Duvan Zapata’s header was straight at Andrea Consigli, but in the final minute a Gregoire Defrel curler on his comeback from injury flashed inches wide of the far stick.

Josh Doig and Martin Erlic both limped off in stoppages for Sassuolo with a knee and thigh issue respectively, but Consigli was heroic with a fingertip save to deny Duvan Zapata’s header a Torino winner.
