SNL 50 Reactions Declare Domingo Sketch The Anniversary Special's "Avengers Endgame Moment"

Reactions have poured in for Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary sketch featuring Marcello Hernandez's Domingo and special guests Sabrina Carpenter, Pedro Pascal, and Bad Bunny. Latin lover Domingo has been a fan-favorite of the sketch comedy series, and recently appeared in a new live sketch as the thorny homewrecker between newlyweds Kelsey (Chloe Fineman) and Matthew (Andrew Dismukes). While Sabrina Carpenter and the rest of the bridesmaids do a rendition of Wicked's "Defying Gravity," Pascal's Ronaldo is revealed to be Domingo's brother and Matt's ex gay-lover, alongside another brother: Bad Bunny's Santiago.

Now, viewers on Twitter/X have shared their reactions to Domingo's appearance in the anniversary special, calling it an "Avengers Endgame moment." The sketch also included appearances from Martin Short, Molly Shannon, and Adam Samberg. Watch the sketch and read what viewers had to say, below:

Mezz Entertainment dubbed Domingo's anniversary sketch as their "AVENGERS ENDGAME MOMENT," drawing a comparison to Engame's "Avengers assemble" scene, which saw the Avengers and their allies arrive in epic fashion at the battlefield to fight against Thanos.

Spencer Althouse at Buzzfeed said they "need a minute" after watching Pedro Pascal play a gay lover who Sabrina Carpenter then "twerks on."

Athena said they were "crying" that the Domingo saga was wrapped up with a "sabrina carpenter wicked battle," writing "ok snl i see u."

User @wandasattorney barely had words for the sketch as watching Sabrina Carpenter perform "Espresso" with Pedro Pascal, Bad Bunny, and Domingo elicited the following keyboard smash reaction: "UDHAGSBAJDJENDNSNKAMDNENSNCJJSJSNFJWKAMQKDIF."

Giselle said that the Domingo skit, which also featured Andy Samberg as a groomsman singing another parody song about Ronaldo, was "the best thing ever."

Jamie said it was "so perfect" that the Domingo saga began with an Ariana Grande-hosted episode where she sings Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso", and Carpenter finishes the sketch off with a rendition of "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.

Other reactions have not been so positive, as Sydney White writes that the Domingo sketch has been "RUN into the ground," and begs for SNL to "give it a rest."

What The Reactions To Domingo's SNL 50 Sketch Means

Domingo's Homewrecking Saga Meets An Epic Finale

Marcello Hernandez’s Domingo made his debut in the Ariana Grande-hosted SNL episode on October 12, 2024. The bridesmaids, led by Grande, performed a parody of Sabrina Carpenter’s 2024 hit "Espresso," revealing Kelsey (Fineman) had cheated on Matt (Dismukes) with the Latin lover during her bachelorette weekend. The Domingo sketch quickly went viral, amassing over 16 million views on SNL's YouTube channel and 100 million views on TikTok. Four episodes later, the sketch returned on SNL with Charli XCX as host, this time set at a baby shower with a reworked version of Chappell Roan’s Hot to Go.

The SNL50 Anniversary Special was stuffed full of A-list stars and the musical guests and singers were just as huge, singing iconic classics and hits.

Now, Domingo returns once again to the couple's vow renewal with his Latin brothers, Pascal's Ronaldo and Bad Bunny's Santiago, who slept with Matt and Kelsey's mother (Molly Shannon), respectively. It’s no surprise that SNL sought to capitalize on the momentum by revisiting the character multiple times, and packing the plot with A-listers. While many of the reactions to the ongoing gag have been positive, particularly applauding the star-studded ensemble of the latest chaotic rendition, others feel like it's time to leave the Domingo sketch behind. In a review for SNL's 50th anniversary episode, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns wrote, "the bit not only ran too long but also began to lose its own plot."

Our Take On Domingo's SNL 50 Sketch

Domingo Risks Overstaying His Welcome

Pascal, Hernandez, and Bad Bunny stand in a group, all with mics in their end, dressed in dark blue and black wedding wear.

The Domingo sketch, once a fresh and absurd twist, now faces the danger of diminishing returns. Various breakout characters of Saturday Night Live's past, like Bill Hader's Stefon and The Californians, thrived as reoccurring bits. However, the reprisals of these gags weren't done within weeks of the initial character or sketches' popularity and were stretched over multiple years. While Domingo’s latest outing still brought plenty of energy, with an iconic reveal by Pedro Pascal, the formula is starting to feel familiar. There’s a fine line between keeping a hit sketch alive and running it into the ground, and Domingo is reaching that tipping point.
