What Happened in Solo Leveling Season 2, Episode #5?
Sung Jiwoon's Side Job Inside A-Rank Dungeon Turns Dangerous
In Episode #17 of Solo Leveling Season 2, Jinwoo joins the Hunters Guild’s mining team for another job, curious about the second strike team of A-Rank hunters led by Son Kihoon. Because of this, Jinwoo quickly accepts the opportunity to work as a carrier and watch a party in action facing monsters in an A-rank dungeon. The strike team is suddenly in a disadvantageous situation after being attacked by a horde of approximately 20 high orcs, each one as strong as an A-rank hunter.
The Hunter’s Guild members are saved by Jinwoo from the shadows, who uses his stealth and ruler’s hand ability, and the team decides to withdraw from the raid. However, a powerful barrier was set up by the leader of the High Orcs, the shaman Kargalgan, who forced the hunters to go to his lair. All hope seems lost for the strike team, who at least hope to hold up the boss while letting Jinwoo escape. Yet, what they don’t know is that Jinwoo is an S-Rank hunter with a shadow army capable of standing up to the challenge.
What Will Happen in Solo Leveling Season Two, Episode #6?
Will Cha Hae In Get Involved in the Battle Against Kargalgan?
Even though Sung Jinwoo is currently acting as a carrier for Strike Team B, episode #17 already shows he will not stand with his arms crossed watching other hunters die. That means that Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode #6 will showcase an all-out battle between the High orcs led by Kargalgan and Jinwoo’s shadow army. Moreover, Jinwoo will directly face the dungeon boss Kargalgan, who has proved to be a powerful shaman.
Additionally, as Jinwoo already has his first interaction with Cha Hae In—which subtly implies he is different from other hunters as remarked by Baruka in episode #14—she has grown to be highly curious about him, enough to request information about him and go look for him among the mining team. This way, Cha Hae In is right outside the gate, which opens the possibility of her sensing something is wrong and entering the dungeon to aid her guild members, marking her first participation in a battle in Solo Leveling anime so far.
Solo Leveling Season 2 Episode #5 Presents Minor Changes from the Manhwa
The Adaptation Highlights a Big Parallel to a Previous Event With an Original Scene
While Solo Leveling episode #17 skipped over the introduction of Yoo Soohyun, which happens in chapter #72 of the manhwa, this scene was possibly rearranged for a later episode. Solo Leveling Season 2 once again cut some scenes from the manhwa to warrant Jeju Island’s Arc's adaptation this season, like an extended conversation when Kihoon is talking with the mining team, when the Strike team’s healer talks with Jinwoo about how it's the squad’s responsibility to guarantee nothing happens to the carrier, and when the hunters are surprised by the orc talking in their language.
Furthermore, the adaptation included an original anime scene of Jinwoo remembering the Double Dungeon incident after the Strike Team B show their resolution to fight for him to escape and die in the dungeon to accomplish their missions as hunters. This scene serves as a parallel of how weak hunters worried only about their own safety, while strong hunters carried the lives of people on their shoulders. Additionally, it serves to remark on the contrasting difference between a good A-rank leader like Kihoon and an egoist one like Kim Chul in the Red Gate Arc, which gives another layer of depth to Solo Leveling’s story.
Solo Leveling Season 2 Takes the Hunter Guild’s 2nd Strike Team to New Heights
The Anime Continues to Surpass Fans’ Expectations with Excellent Animation
Although Solo Leveling's manhwa has some of the best art in the medium, the anime took the action-packed scenes of the 2nd Strike Team fighting the High Orcs to a new level, giving every hunter their time to shine in the adaptation. This is probably the reason why the adaptation chose to cut the number of hunters in the raid from 17 to 9. The episode also presented one of the best soundtracks by Hiroyuki Sawano while the Strike Team enters the boss's chamber, which conveys the gripping and intense tension of the moment.
This way, Solo Leveling’s production team successfully improved a seemingly small fight of the manhwa and made it one of the most exciting episodes of the season so far. Solo Leveling season 2 is already one of the best animes in Winter 2025 thanks to its detailed and carefully thought-out animation, which generates anticipation in the viewers waiting for the upcoming episodes.
