Special Treks for Seniors

Yes, we want everyone to trek because trekking transforms lives. But we must also acknowledge that age plays a role in how treks are experienced. After 30, muscle mass reduces steadily—around 3–8% every decade.

This is why seniors’ treks are not just regular treks repackaged. They are thoughtfully redesigned—keeping pace, terrain, and care in mind—so seniors can trek comfortably and joyfully.

What makes them different?

  • Route and pace adjustments: The itinerary is reconfigured to ensure comfortable walking distances, pre-planned breaks, and camps placed within reach.
  • Higher safety ratio: For every 5 trekkers, there is 1 Indiahikes team member. This ensures personal attention, additional safety, and care throughout the trek.
  • Extra facilities: Western toilet seats are available at all bio-toilets, stools are placed at every campsite, and backpack offloading is included as part of the trek fee. Seniors are also served tea and snacks at regular intervals on the trail.
  • Health checks and support: Daily BP checks are conducted. Our Trek Leaders go through intense medical and psychological training to ensure both physical safety and emotional comfort for seniors.
  • Menu for seniors: The food menu is adapted to suit seniors’ dietary needs, with light yet energising meals.
  • The Trek Design: The trek is designed to ignite the children in seniors. Senior trekkers are encouraged to share stories from the times that younger trekkers have never experienced. Yes, special treks for senior trekkers are about the trail. But it is a lot more about laughing together, sharing stories and bringing in a sense of playfulness that your routine lives would rarely allow.

In essence, these treks are designed with extra care, safety, and thoughtful facilities so seniors can focus on what truly matters—bonding, laughing, and rediscovering their inner child.
