Star Wars: Legion Reveals New Starter Sets, Providing Even More Affordable Starting Point

Star Wars: Legion, the miniatures skirmish game involving armies from the Star Wars universe, is getting a new easy entry point into the game thanks to newly revealed Starter Sets. Originally released back in 2018, Star Wars: Legion allows players to build armies involving five different Star Wars factions across two different eras of the game. Starting this year, maker Atomic Mass Games started to release resculpted core models for all four armies, made of hard plastic featuring new, more dynamic poses. Now, many of these models will be bundled in new Starter Sets beginning later this year.

Announced at Adepticon, the new starter sets will cover four of Star Wars: Legion's five armies - the Rebel Alliance, Empire, Separatist Alliance, and Galactic Republic. Each set will contain over 35 different miniatures, with a low price point of $95. The starter sets comprise approximately 600 points worth of units, or about 60% of the units needed to play a standard 1,000-point game. The Rebel Alliance and Empire starter boxes will be released this summer, followed by the Separatists and Galactic Republic.

Each Starter Set Includes Over 35 Minis, Including One Iconic Hero Per Faction

Each of the new starter sets will contain everything you need to start playing Star Wars: Legion, including the movement tools, dice, various markers, and unit cards needed during gameplay. While each starter box is different, they each contain a single hero/commander, as well as standard and specialized troops needed to form the foundation of a different army. The specifics for each starter box are as follows:

Players will need to decide which faction they want to choose, as each army provides a different style of combat. The Rebel Alliance is great at holding objectives and has lots of heroes, the Empire has durable units, the Separatists can run the largest armies with hordes of battle droids, and the Republic benefits from loads of stackable buffs. Each army has their pros and cons, but none are so overwhelmingly powerful that they dominate competitive play.
