Study: Gene editing in medicine is more favorably viewed than in agriculture

A study published in Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology explored U.S. public opinion on gene editing in agricultural and medical fields.

Results of the study show that the respondents were more aware and more likely to have opinions on the safety of gene editing applications in agriculture than in the medical field. The researchers believed that their level of familiarity is likely to result from the discussions and conversations about genetically modified (GM) foods in the country. Over 4,500 respondents opined positively on gene editing as indicated by their response that gene editing is deemed safe.
