Thanks to My Hero Academia's New Anime, the Manga Is Eyeing a Special Comeback
Fans of My Hero Academia are doing pretty good right about now, with the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime having premiered, the final season of the main series around the corner, and more. Now, one more piece of good news can be added to the pile, as the Vigilantes manga will be making a special comeback to celebrate its anime adaptation.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes was a prequel/spinoff manga by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court that ran from August 2016 to May 2022, when it published its 126th and last chapter. For a companion manga, it was quite successful, and has become absolutely beloved by the segment of the My Hero Academia fandom that's read it. Fans were thrilled when it was announced late last year that Vigilantes would be receiving its own anime adaptation, which just began airing on April 5, 2025. It seems this momentous event is being celebrated with the release of a special bonus chapter, almost 3 years after the series ended.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Gets a New Update After Years
The New Chapter Will Mark the Creators' First Return Since the Manga Ended
According to reliable source @MangaMoguraRE on X (Formerly Twitter), Vigilantes will receive a new chapter to celebrate the anime's release, which will be published in Japanese on April 15, 2025, on the Shonen Jump+ app. There's currently no word on an official English release. It will certainly be interesting to see what this new chapter consists of and when it is set. It could be a little side adventure that took place during the main story, or it may be set after the manga's conclusion, offering a tantalizing look into where the characters ended up after the story.
It's certainly interesting that the manga is returning, and that its last chapter will be published after the main series' final chapter in August 2024 (or its own bonus chapter from November). That may make this Vigilantes chapter the final piece of canonical My Hero Academia material, at least for the foreseeable future. Depending on the content of this new chapter, it may be interesting to see if the Vigilantes anime might adapt it someday, too.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes' Return Could Give Fans What They've Wanted
The Special Chapter Could Finally Be The Long-Awaited Crossover
Many fans are hoping that the new chapter will involve Koichi meeting Deku, since the two protagonists never got to cross paths during the run of either manga. While there are certain circumstances that make it difficult or unlikely for the two to meet, they're not impossible to overcome in a logical way. It would certainly be fun to see them interact, since both characters are major All Might fanboys and would no doubt bond quickly over their shared love of the former #1 hero. Perhaps Deku could even introduce Koichi to All Might!
Whatever the new chapter may be, fans of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes will be happy to get just about anything, especially when the manga has already been over for nearly three years.
