The 105 Species I Found on the Pench Tiger Trail Trek in Madhya Pradesh
Today, I want to share a small story: About the incredible biodiversity on the Pench Tiger Trail in Madhya Pradesh with Indiahikes.
We often hear of certain places as being rich in biodiversity. But it can at times be vague or difficult for people to realise or to understand. So I thought, why not document things that I get to see, observe on this trek?
I have been trekking for over 12 years now and have absolutely loved the sport, the connection it brings with nature and the impact it has on us.
However, this time, when I was going on the Pench Tiger Trail, which also happened to be my ritual of celebrating my birthday outdoors, I was excited for something more than just the trek.
I was trekking this year with a new sense of awareness of the incredible biodiversity around us and a better understanding of the forest. And getting to trek inside such a pristine and unique location that you don't usually get to, was something I was looking forward to with much excitement.
Having done the Certified Naturalist Course with The Naturalist School last year, in 2024, I wanted to observe as many living things as possible in the forests of Pench in Madhya Pradesh. I was stepping into these forests for the first time in my life!
And just like that, over the span of 3 days, I was able to observe, record close to 105 different observations on iNaturalist! Thought this might give a better understanding for all the trekkers going out here on the trek, and to appreciate the things we have around us and also observe more.
I am definitely envious of all the trek leaders who get to trek for many weeks or months in this forest now, haha :)
For trekkers going on the Pench Tiger Trail trek: You can also observe different species around you while trekking here and take photos of them, upload them on iNat.
