The Boys' Most Exciting Upcoming Release Has A Major Timeline Advantage Over Gen V

The Boys' upcoming spinoff already has an exciting premise and fan-favorite characters involved, but it will also have a major timeline advantage compared to Gen V, making it one of the franchise's most promising projects yet. After the monumental success of Prime Video's The Boys, the universe has continued to expand through a variety of new shows. While the franchise's very first spinoff debuted to mixed reviews, The Boys Presents: Diabolical proved the superhero series has plenty more stories to tell and after the excellent reception to Gen V season 1's ending, that has never been more apparent.

Gen V perfectly added to the world of The Boys, using characters from the main series to help make the project more familiar to viewers, while introducing several new supes who look like they will play a big role in The Boys season 5's story. As a result, the show has been renewed for a second season, which is set to be released at some point in 2025. However, another spinoff looks to be even more interesting, and its lack of timeline restrictions should make it serious competition for Gen V, proving that the franchise has a healthy future.

Vought Rising's Timeline Gives It More Narrative Freedom Compared To Gen V

Vought Rising's Prequel Status Means It Won't Have To Worry About What The Main Show Is Doing

Vought Rising is the latest spinoff set to take place in The Boys universe, and while details are still limited, its timeline confirmation gives it much more narrative freedom than Gen V. The project will take place in the 1950s and focus on the early days of Vought, with Soldier Boy and Stormfront scheduled to return. It will also allegedly contain murder mystery elements, making it vastly different from most other shows set in The Boys universe, but it's Vought Rising's prequel status that is undoubtedly its biggest advantage.

While Gen V does possess a mostly self-contained story, the inclusion of Homelander, Victoria Neuman, and several other big characters means it has to avoid making any drastic decisions that would have a knock-on effect on The Boys.

Unlike Gen V, the series won't have to tiptoe around what The Boys is doing. Instead, it has a lot of freedom when it comes to introducing and killing off characters, as it's unlikely to have a major impact on the wider story. In contrast, while Gen V does possess a mostly self-contained story, the inclusion of Homelander, Victoria Neuman, and several other big characters means it has to avoid making any drastic decisions that would have a knock-on effect on The Boys.

Season 4 also connected Gen V with the main show even more, meaning the spinoff's second season will have an even tougher time continuing its story without impacting The Boys' final outing. Vought Rising can avoid this issue for the most part and will have far fewer limitations, giving the show free rein to come up with creative ideas and not worry about what's going on elsewhere, which is a huge narrative advantage.

Vought Rising Must Still Tie Into The Boys' Future

The Spinoff Can't Make Any Major Decisions That Would Impact The Franchise's Present Timeline

Although Vought Rising has plenty of freedom, there are still some restrictions that mean it will have to tie into The Boys' future. Sure, it has a license to get creative and won't have to worry much about The Boys' ongoing story, but it can't retcon things that will impact the present timeline. For example, the spinoff could add more depth to Soldier Boy's origins and perhaps offer a new perspective on his past, but it can't kill him or Stormfront off, considering they were both still alive decades later. The same applies to the fate of Vought International.

The Boys is set to expand with multiple new spin-offs, but Vought Rising will have unique challenges introducing certain characters from the past.

The company may face some setbacks in the prequel series, but it can't be completely taken down or have its secrets exposed, otherwise, The Boys simply wouldn't make sense. So long as it avoids tackling anything that would alter the current timeline, Vought Rising can connect to Gen V and The Boys in creative ways or attempt to avoid the ongoing shows entirely. Either way, it still has much more freedom than most of the franchise's other projects, and assuming the creators capitalize on this, Vought Rising has all the potential to be The Boys' most unique spinoff yet.
