The Boys Season 5 & Prequel Vought Rising Get Major Filming Updates From Creator Eric Kripke
The Boyscreator Eric Kripke has a major update about the filming process for season 5 and another spinoff. The Boys has become an important franchise for Prime Video, and it has already enjoyed two successful spin-offs. Gen V and The Boys Presents: Diabolical were only the first major shows to emerge after the original series, as the upcoming shows Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico are also currently being developed. Vought Rising will follow Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash) through Vought's creation, while Mexico stars Diego Luna (Andor) in a mysterious role.
On his personal X account, Kripke revealed that season 5 is currently halfway through production. He also offered an update about Vought Rising, which is still in the writing phase. Kripke is optimistic about the "brilliant scripts" and the supersuits that are being designed. The show is still not currently in production, but it remains actively in development. Check out his post below:
What Kripke's Update Means For The Boys
Season 5 & Vought Rising Remain In Active Development
The Boys season 5 was originally announced on May 14, 2024, shortly before the June 13 premiere of season 4. Season 5 would be the show's last, though it will continue through its various spin-off shows. Filming for the final season officially began on November 25 and has been underway ever since. It has been 124 days since production began, and, since Kripke believes that filming is only halfway finished, it should conclude sometime in July. If it follows a similar schedule to season 4, which wrapped in April 2023, The Boys season 5 premiere will come in late 2026.
Gen V season 2 is also in development, which was announced shortly after its initial release.
The Boys' schedule aligns with previous predictions, but Vought Rising's update is not quite as substantial, making it difficult to make accurate assessments. Scripts have already been completed, but there is no way to know how many there are left to draft. The show was only announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, so the actual release is likely to be years away. Gen V, by comparison, was announced on September 20, 2020, and it didn't premiere until September 29, 2023. If Vought Rising follows a similar schedule, a 2027 release is a possibility.
Our Take On Kripke's The Boys Update
Everything Is Progressing As Expected
Nothing in this update is especially concerning, as it appears that production is continuing as it was originally planned. Both shows remain on track, which is no surprise, given that it has become such a standout for Prime Video. Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe have stumbled in recent years, The Boys remains a success, and its universe only continues to grow. Now, it's just a matter of the countdown to season 5 and what Kripke envisioned to be the last bits of the team's story.
