The Price For The Switch 2 Port Of One Of 2025's Best Games Has Been Revealed

With the Nintendo Switch 2 set to be a significant leap in hardware over its predecessor, plenty of games will be coming to the platform, though their prices have so far been contentious. Backlash over Switch 2 game prices has been prominent since the console's dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 4, but it has mostly been directed at Mario Kart World and expensive new versions of older games.

Other new games will make their way to the Switch 2 now that Nintendo's tech is capable, such as Split Fiction, one of the distinct highlights of 2025 thus far. Luckily, publisher Electronic Arts (via Nintendo Life) has confirmed that Split Fiction will be available on Switch 2 at a price of $49.99. This is the same price that Hazelight Studios' latest is available on other platforms for.

Split Fiction Will Retail For Its Standard Price On Switch 2

Supports Friend's Pass

Split Fiction's $50 price tag is a refreshing sign for the Nintendo faithful who haven't yet had a chance to play the incredible co-op adventure game. $50 is slightly more modest than many other AAA releases, which have settled on a new standard of $70 since the start of the ninth console generation. It's quite a lot better than Mario Kart World's $80 price, though, and could be an enticing alternative for those looking for a couch co-op game among the Switch 2's launch titles.

Even better, EA has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports Split Fiction's Friend's Pass, which means two people can play through the entire game online on separate consoles with a single copy purchased. Split Fiction (and, by extension, its Friend's Pass) supports crossplay as well, so it's possible to play with anyone on any other platform as long as the game has been purchased once.

Ports Of Older Games & New Releases Alike

Mario Kart World's $90 physical release, and still egregious $80-dollar digital, is rightfully receiving a lot of criticism, but there hasn't yet been any indication that the rest of the industry will follow suit. In fact, Nintendo has explained its prices, noting that inflation and the uncertainty of U.S. tariffs are factors, but also making it clear that price points are on a game-by-game basis. Nintendo's games will not be a minimum of $80 going forward, and neither will other publishers' releases.

Split Fiction is likely closer to the norm in this regard – a fairly new game coming to another platform at its usual price. Despite the raised ceiling in recent years, many games have gone to market with more moderate prices. Indie games are typically cheaper, but even AAA titles tend to go for anywhere between $40 and $70. Split Fictionis among them with its $50 asking price on Nintendo Switch 2, but it's also one of the more generous considering its Friend's Pass.
