Lorenzo Pellegrini is arguably the Roma player who benefitted the most from the appointment of Daniele De Rossi as the Italy international has scored a goal in each of the opening three games with DDR in charge.

De Rossi replaced José Mourinho in January and the Giallorossi have won three games in a row with their ex-midfielder at the helm.

Italian newspapers have already highlighted how Roma have been using a different playing style under DDR, who has picked a four-man formation and relies more on short passes on the field rather than playing long balls.

The Roma player who seems to have benefitted the most from the switch on the bench is captain Pellegrini.

The Italy international had found the net three times in 16 appearances under Mourinho in the first part of 2023-24 but has now bagged three goals for Roma in De Rossi’s first three games in charge.

Mourinho mainly used Pellegrini in central midfield in a 3-5-2 system or as an attacking midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 formation. On the other hand, De Rossi has deployed the 27-year-old in a three-man midfield in his 4-3-2-1 line-up.

In the newborn De Rossi era, Pellegrini is the joint-top scorer alongside Paulo Dybala, but the Argentinean already played a vital role under Mourinho, scoring five goals in 13 games.
