The Stormlight Archive's Looming Time Skip Gives It One Big Advantage Over Mistborn Era 2
After Wind and Truth, The Stormlight Archivehas a significant time jump coming up, but there's a notable advantage over Mistborn's second era. Brandon Sanderson has been expanding his Cosmere fantasy universe with published books for two decades now, and Wind and Truth's ending is the most pivotal yet. The novel sets up events of enormous consequence that will ripple throughout Sanderson's shared universe, but the implications for its own series are equally daunting.
Brandon Sanderson's upcoming books include numerous Cosmere titles, but we're not expecting the next volume of The Stormlight Archive until 2031. While the wait may be frustrating, it's fitting, given the fact that there will also be an in-world time jump. Sanderson has planned for a gap of ten years between books 5 and 6, which will mean picking up the story on Roshar after years of its inhabitants being enveloped in the Night of Sorrows.
The Stormlight Archive Arc 2's Time Skip Will Be Much Smaller Than Mistborn Era 2's
We're Only Missing 10 Years On Roshar
Brandon Sanderson is acclaimed for pulling off a time jump in his Mistborn series, which is a notable success among fantasy novels. While most fantasy universes remain static in technology for millennia, Sanderson's ambitious goal is to shift the Cosmere from fantasy to science fiction, meaning his worlds will change drastically over time, with his famous magic systems developing alongside technology. While Mistborn's time jump was three centuries, The Stormlight Archive's will only be a decade.

The Next 5 Stormlight Archive Books, Ranked By How Excited We Are For Their Flashback Characters
We know who the five main POV flashback characters will be for The Stormlight Archive, so here's who we're most excited to see in books 6-10.
A Smaller, 10-Year Jump Puts The Stormlight Archive At A Significant Advantage
Viewers Will Be Diving Into A More Familiar Series Than Mistborn Era 2
While Roshar will still be drastically different when we next visit, due to it being sent into an age of turmoil and depression, it won't feel as foreign as Scadrial in Mistborn Era 2. Between The Hero of Ages and The Alloy of Law, the world of Mistborn changed in a drastic way, focusing on a fresh set of characters, altered magic systems, highly progressed technology, and more. A few immortal characters were able to carry over, but their appearances were few and far between in the continuation.
Heroes like Kaladin and Shallan may take a backseat to other protagonists like Lift or Renarin, but they'll still play an active role in the final novels.
Sequence 2 of The Stormlight Archive seems like it will be a more direct continuation. All five of the expected POV flashback characters are people we've already met in the first five novels, and almost all the main characters from Arc 1 survived. Heroes like Kaladin and Shallan may take a backseat to other protagonists like Lift or Renarin, but they'll still play an active role in the final novels. The integration of familiar elements will be much more seamless in The Stormlight Archive, giving Sanderson an advantage in his writing.
