There's Lots of Good Manga Coming Out, But One Piece Is the Best For a Reason
While it is obvious that One Piece is a cut above most manga in the more than 2 decades it has been serializing, there is another interesting fact about how the series is made that makes it more unique. The series also stands out for many reasons, whether it's the insane longevity or the focus on long-term storytelling, making it a joy to read.
In an interview with long-time editors of Dragon Ball, Kazuhiko Torishima, Yu Kondo, and Fuyuto Takeda, they talked about how manga is made nowadays and how Toriyama's switch to digital drawing made his lines less expressive. They felt that, despite the drawbacks presented by the switch to digital, they felt pressured towards it by the editorial section. They also noted that although most manga nowadays is created digitally, there are a few creators who still persist with the traditional method, with One Piece's Eichiro Oda being the most notable.
