LEGAZPI CITY – A PHP10-million tourism rest area (TRA) will soon rise at Dolo Port in Barangay Dolo, San Jose Partido town in Camarines Sur that aims to provide more convenience and comfort for visitors and travelers.
In an interview, Mayor Jerold Peña said the facility is now over 75 percent complete and once finished, is expected to significantly improve the overall experience for tourists in the province.
"The TRA demonstrates the government's commitment to strengthening the tourism industry," he said.
Peña said the facility will boost tourism programs, ultimately increasing tourist arrivals.
He thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for supporting the development of the province's tourism infrastructure.
"We believe that the tourism potential of the TRA will provide more livelihoods for residents and meet the needs of visitors," he added.
In a separate interview, Herbie Aguas, regional director of the Department of Tourism in Bicol (DOT-5), said three TRAs are expected to be inaugurated for the region, with the one in San Jose, Camarines Sur, seen to be launched first in March.
"DOT Secretary Christina Frasco will be the guest of honor for the event. The secretary will visit the area and personally cut the ribbon. Each TRA includes an information desk, a souvenir shop, a lounge, restrooms and shower facilities, a lactation room, and charging stations," Aguas said.
He said San Jose town has much to offer tourists, complementing the TRA and enhancing visitor comfort.
"They have a floating restaurant, an appealing boulevard favored by motor enthusiasts, and a lively festival featuring nighttime events. The town's historical church and plans for a large image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia are expected to attract more tourists. The port also serves as an additional way to the famous Caramoan Islands, making the TRA's location in San Jose particularly strategic," he added.
Aguas said that by 2025, the provinces of Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon are already being considered for additional TRAs.
"We aim to provide our tourists with high-quality tourism services," he added. (PNA)
