Two Original Dexter Stars Returning For Sequel Series
Dexter: Resurrectiongets a new update, revealing that two more original stars will be returning. Although Dexter: New Blood was originally positioned as the end for Michael C. Hall's beloved serial killer, it was announced after the finale that this franchise isn't quite done yet. In addition to prequel Dexter: Original Sin starring Patrick Gibson, which is now airing, Hall himself will be reprising his role in a sequel show called Dexter: Resurrection, slated to premiere in summer 2025.
Deadline now reveals that Dexter: Resurrection has added several actors to its cast as series regulars, including Angel Batista actor David Zayas and original Harry Morgan actor James Remar. In addition, the report states that Jack Alcott will return as a series regular as Dexter's son, Harrison, after featuring prominently in New Blood. Unfortunately, story details for the sequel show still remain under wraps, including its setting.
What The Character Returns Mean For Dexter: Resurrection
How Batista, Harry & Harrison Could Factor Into The Sequel Show
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Dexter: New Blood's ending.
New Blood was, in many ways, quite a departure from the original Dexter, taking place in a snowy setting and featuring mostly new characters. Batista does return as part of the Dexter: New Blood cast, but he ultimately plays a very minor role. Remar, on the other hand, after serving as Dexter's guide throughout the original series, wasn't present in New Blood at all, with Jennifer Carpenter's Debra Morgan instead coming to occupy this role.
The return of both Batista and Harry suggests that Dexter: Resurrection could end up feeling closer to the original series than New Blood did. Dexter: New Blood ends with Batista having learned the truth about Dexter, so whatever role he does play in the sequel show could be an antagonistic one. As Harry has been dead for quite some time in the world of the show, it seems logical that Remar will be returning to play Dexter's inner guide once more.
As for Alcott, Harrison comes to play an important role in New Blood. Dealing with his father's same murderous instincts, Harrison is eventually the one who shoots and seemingly kills Dexter, and the show's final moments seemed to set up a solo adventure for the character. The return of both Batista and Harry suggests Resurrection will be very Dexter-focused, but Harrison's actions in the finale could point to a tense relationship between father and son moving forward.
Our Take On Dexter: Resurrection's New Cast Announcements
Batista's Return Can Fix A New Blood Mistake
Many questions remain about Dexter: Resurrection, but the show is shaping up to be something of a cross between the original show and New Blood. Even though New Blood was generally well-received, the ending, like the Dexter season 8 finale, was divisive.
New Blood has a 77% critics' score and 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Batista felt relatively underutilized in the limited series, and Resurrection now has the opportunity to correct this, making him a more crucial part of the narrative as he realizes that Dexter survived his gunshot wound. Of course, with Batista potentially on Dexter's trail once more, that puts a large target on his back, which could lead to some shocking moments in Dexter: Resurrection.
