Update Your Wardrobe With These Winter Sale Finds
The Local newsletter is your free, daily guide to life in Colorado. For locals, by locals.
If you’re anything like me, you’re currently suffering from a mid-winter closet slump—and a holiday credit card hangover. Luckily, there’s a budget-friendly solution: winter sales. Take a spin through my top discounted picks, plus tips on how to wear these closet refreshers into spring.
A novelty top can be a wardrobe workhorse if you plan accordingly. Take Lilith’s sheer silk printed pullover (pictured, above); it looks great, as shown, layered over a camisole or even a long-sleeve T-shirt. As the weather warms up, push up the sleeves and wear it with a lean board short (check out Vivienne Tam’s runway). Originally: $450, Now: $225; Moxie, The Orchards, 5936 S. Holly St., 303-694-0773, moxieinstyle.com

This utility jacket with southwestern accents is the kind of casual topper every girl needs for, say, weekend brunch. Pair it with skinny black jeans and a gray pullover, and finish the look with a muted print scarf. When the weather warms for good, wear it with gray shorts and an earth-tone camisole or throw it over your favorite sundress. Originally: $58, Now: $35; Starlet, 3450 W. 32nd Ave., 303-433-7827, shopstarlet.com
Many women (myself included) wear their ankle boots year-round, so investing in this style is never a waste of money. (Spoiler alert: Booties will still be on-trend next fall.) This dove gray version by Coclico will look sophisticated now when paired with white skinny jeans or leggings and an oversized gray sweater; in the spring, put them on with a denim or printed shirtdress. Originally: $428, Now: $298; Strut, 3611 W. 32nd Ave., 303-477-3361, strutdenver.com
Designer Alexander Wang is a pioneer of athletic fashion—a trend that shows no signs of slowing down—and sale time is the perfect time to nab a pair of his T By Alexander Wang mélange fleece sweatpants with contrast striping. Outfit them with an oversized chunky pullover or cardigan on cold winter days (wear a high heel to balance out the volume), and a slouchy white short-sleeve or muscle T-shirt for spring. Originally: $350, Now: $245; A Line Boutique, 5375 Landmark Pl., Greenwood Village, 303-773-8200, aline-online.com
A generously sized leather bag is a wardrobe essential. Splendid’s Tulum tote has enough interior pockets to stash all of your necessities and then some. The sage option (it’s also available in go-with-everything black) will add some life to winter neutrals and also accent spring’s 1970s-influenced brown hues. Originally: $328, Now: $229.60; Dragonfly, 3615 W. 32nd Ave., 303-433-6331, facebook.com/dragonflyapparel
If you’re looking for some serious clothing ROI, invest in a classic, four-season dress like this graphic knit beauty by Narciso Rodriguez. Its fitted, knee-length style is ladylike yet sexy (and that white panel is torso-slimming). Let it shine in spring with a pair of sexy pumps; the next couple months, though, call for an elegant stiletto ankle boot and a tailored jacket or cardigan to keep shoulders warm. Originally: $960, Now: $379; Max, 264 Detroit St., 303-321-4949, maxclothing.com
Designers have been slowly moving away from crisp, well-defined digital prints (see: Peter Pilotto) to softer, abstract art–inspired patterns (like brush strokes or inkblots). Wear this watercolor blouse by Parker & Clover layered under a winter white or blush pink cardigan now and tucked into a pair of white culottes in the spring. Originally: $218, Now: $109; Rebel, 5910 S. University Blvd., Greenwood Village, 720-283-1004, shoprebel.com
Those in the market for a leather jacket already know it’s a sizeable purchase, so any discount is helpful. This moto version by Closed, a German denim and fashion brand known for its effortless modern style, is a prime choice for its rich chocolate brown color. Plus, it’ll pair nicely with winter whites and creams, as well as spring’s earthy hues and gold tones. Originally: $792, Now: $633.60; Goldyn, 2040 W. 30th Ave., 720-489-0580, shopgoldyn.com
