Viewpoint: Litigation industry intensifies its lobbying in Iowa to stoke fear about the alleged dangers of glyphosate

I want to refute some dangerous misinformation being propagated around a bill in the Iowa Legislature.
There is a concerted effort, led by the litigation industry and driven by the desire to line their own pockets, to stoke fear around one of the most studied products in agriculture.
The fact is this: This bill, Senate Study Bill 1051, ensures that products reviewed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency have labeling that reflects their scientific determination. This bill also does not prevent Iowans from suing pesticide manufacturers if they choose, nor does it provide blanket immunity.
Glyphosate does not cause cancer. The Environmental Protection Agency, and leading global regulators, including in the EU, Canada, Japan and many others, have determined it is safe when used as directed.
The litigation industry would rather highlight junk science like that and downplay the full scientific record. Because it’s in their financial interests to keep lawsuits coming.
