Plant protection products are a perennial bone of contention between environmentalists and farmers. But the belief that precisely these chemical agents are the biggest polluters of the environment and water is quite unfair to agriculture, says Mario Lešnik, head of the Department of Phytomedicine at the Faculty of Agriculture and Biosystem Sciences in Maribor.

Lešnik further pointed out that plant protection products are becoming more and more friendly to the environment and people.

In the past, we used arsenic-based insecticides against the apple borer, which makes people cringe today. With today’s registration process, chemicals that would be comparably burdensome than in the past simply cannot enter the market.
