"Villains Are The Most Fun": Peter Dinklage’s Casting In 19-Year-Old Horror Franchise Continues A Great Career Trend After Game Of Thrones

Peter Dinklage has proved to be an incredibly versatile and skilled actor whose latest role continues a major trend for the actor. Dinklage appeared in various roles in film and TV from 1991 until his breakout role in The Station Agent in 2003. However, since his breakout, the star has seen a meteoric rise as he tackles a variety of impressive roles in various franchises and manages to dominate in any scene where he appears.

Dinklage has also developed a career which sees him play a variety of characters, from the heroic, to the villainous, though he appears to have a soft spot for darker roles. When discussing this tendency to play villains, Peter Dinklage offered the following quote: "Villains are, in my experience, the most fun you can have at the movies because they don't care." And evidently, this trend continues with Dinklage now set to join the cast of Dexter: Resurrection as the primary antagonist.

Peter Dinklage's Dexter: Resurrection Casting Continues His Recent Trend Of Villain Roles

Peter Dinklage Makes For A Spectacular Villain

Dinklage has accumulated nearly 100 credits over the course of his career for various acting roles, but over the last couple of decades, he appears to have settled into tackling a lot more villains. In Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, he plays Casca Highbottom, the creator of the Hunger Games, and a man who seems to enjoy pushing characters like Coriolanus down. In Unfrosted, he plays Harry Friendly, a dastardly leader of the Milk syndicate. In I Care A Lot, he plays a Russian mobster, and so on.

It's clear that he has a skill for playing disdainful characters, and bringing the worst out of heroes. And pitting him against the incredibly popular anti-hero Dexter Morgan in the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrections, is an incredibly promising move for the franchise. While the original series wrapped up in 2013, the show has continued to amass more followers with spin-offs, and Michael C. Hall's performance appears to have kept the fanbase craving more. And with Dinklage appearing opposite Dexter, it will prove to be an electric combination.

How Peter Dinklage Compares To The Dexter Franchise's Previous Main Villains

Dexter's Biggest Rivals Have Been Well Cast

And as far as the original Dexter series is concerned, the show had a way of blurring the lines between good and evil, with the main protagonist being an obsessive murderer who is addicted to shedding blood. Facing off against Dexter, actors like John Lithgow, who previously appeared in many roles where he appeared jovial, kind, and sweet, was transformed into a monster. Patrick Dempsey has often been cast as a hero in various projects, but when appearing in Dexter: Original Sin, he played a villain, which likewise follows a trend for that actor.

In general, many of the best villains in these shows conceal their dark side. They challenge Dexter, and they create an uneasy bond as the two killers find themselves at odds. Not much is known about Dinklage's character, aside from the fact that he is a billionaire, but this likely means they are public facing, and will challenge Dexter in new and exciting ways. Whatever the case, the casting of Peter Dinklage in the role speaks to the level of prestige and investment going into Dexter: Resurrection, and could ultimately provide some of the most exciting stories from the franchise in decades.
