Warhammer 40K To Release New Line Of Space Wolves Miniatures Alongside Return To Armageddon

The Space Wolves are the latest Warhammer 40,000faction to get a massive refresh of miniatures, as the game prepares to return to the classic battlefield of Armageddon. Warhammer 40K's robust miniatures line is constantly added to and refined by Games Workshop. Typically, armies receive either a new unit or model around the release of their codex. However, in certain circumstances, an army will receive a major refresh, usually updating the models for the first time in a decade or longer.

On March 27, Games Workshop announced that it would refresh the Space Wolves, a classic Space Marines chapter, with a new army line later this year. The Space Wolves will receive multiple new units and refreshed minis to help prepare for the game's return to Armageddon, a classic battleground and site of a massive war against the forces of Chaos. The Space Wolves, Grey Knights, and Black Templars will all return to Armageddon in a campaign book later this year, opposed by the World Eaters and other forces of chaos.

Why The Space Wolves Refresh Is A Huge Deal For Warhammer 40K

Space Wolves Are A Unique Chapter Of Space Marines

The Space Wolves are one of the original Space Marines chapters and draw heavy inspiration from Viking aesthetics. Unlike other Space Marines chapters, the Space Wolves very much eschew normal battle tactics, with their own organization and unique units. It's been over 15 years since the Space Wolves received a significant refresh of their specific miniatures line, which has left the Space Wolves looking rather tired on battlefields. A new Army Box set containing 28 miniatures will lead the charge, with a second wave of miniatures set for release afterward.

The new Emperor's Children army box contains a whopping 26 miniatures, enough to form the foundation of a dangerous new Warhammer 40,000 army.

Armageddon was one of the first significant events in the Warhammer 40K universe and helped popularize the Space Wolves and several other chapters. The new Armageddon campaign book (meant to be used in narrative campaign play) could help re-shape the Warhammer 40K universe, especially if Games Workshop tracks the results of battles like it did during the original Armageddon event. This new campaign will include Hellfire rules that grant some units new warp powers, but at a potentially high cost.

Our Take: Warhammer 40K Keeps Attacking My Wallet

This New Space Marines Line Looks Awesome

The Space Wolves are an awesome bunch of Space Marines, although most players have stopped using them due to how outdated their miniatures were. A new lineup of Fenris Wolves, Blood Claws, and Headtakers should be enough to bring back interest in the Space Wolves in 2025 and beyond. The Space Wolves are one of several chapters of Space Marines to get new codices in the not-too-distant future, and it will be interesting to see whether Warhammer 40K refreshes any other lines of miniatures for another round of endless war in the grimdark future.
