What’s Lorazepam? What Drug Parker Posey's Victoria Ratliff Is Taking In The White Lotus Season 3 & Why

The White Lotus season 3, episode 1 aptly teased the uncovering of secrets from its characters, with one involving a drug called Lorazepam linked to Parker Posey's Victoria Ratliff. The Ratliff family make up five of the main players in The White Lotus season 3's cast of characters, with Victoria being the matriarch of the group. The ending of The White Lotus season 3, episode 1 already showcased a strange scene between the Ratliff siblings, with earlier scenes hinting that Timothy, the patriarch, has a shady history with some of his business associates.
These teases are typical of The White Lotus, with the show being known for its deeper exploration of several addictingly different characters that are clearly continuing this time around and will undoubtedly bleed over into The White Lotus season 4. Where Victoria is concerned, she was perhaps least explored in the premiere, rendering her an unlikely possible victim in The White Lotus season 3. One small tease, however, that could lead to something bigger was her mention of Lorazepam, a drug that has a variety of uses.
Lorazepam Is A Drug Used To Treat Nausea & Vomiting

Victoria first mentions Lorazepam in the final scene of The White Lotus season 3, episode 1. She tells her husband that she got a second wind, but that she has taken Lorazepam. This implies that Victoria is using Lorazepam for its intended purpose, as it is often prescribed to people with anxiety disorders and sleeping problems that are related to anxiety.
Moreover, Lorazepam has been linked to nausea and vomiting, sometimes being associated with cancer patients in this regard. Lorazepam can also be used to treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Evidently, there are many potential uses for the drug that Victoria is taking in The White Lotus season 3. Given that the show has not confirmed her exact reasoning - and The White Lotus tends to unravel secrets about its characters as it goes on - each of these possibilities could be linked to deeper elements of Victoria.
Victoria Is Likely Taking Lorazepam For Nausea After The Boat Trip In Thailand

All that being said, Victoria's usage of Lorazepam could be much simpler. After all, the Ratliffs' journey to Thailand was described as a long one, consisting of several flights and a boat ride to the titular hotel. Therefore, it could be the case that Victoria simply used Lorazepam to either keep her potential anxiety in check or treat nausea from travel sickness.
Beyond that though, Victoria was shown to be quite reserved in comparison to her other family members. She also fell asleep during The White Lotus season 3's dinner scene, which could indicate a higher dosage of the drug than she is supposed to have. With that in mind, as well as The White Lotus' tendency to focus on addiction as a character trait in previous seasons, Victoria's drug use could be something more severe, in more ways than one.
