American Idol season 23 welcomed back host Ryan Seacrest, as well as long-time judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, along with Carrie Underwood, who took Katy Perry's place at the judging table. Carrie won American Idol season 4 in 2005, and has since gone on to become a global superstar. She was the perfect choice to replace Katy because of her firsthand experience with being a contestant on the show and then having an extraordinary music career after winning.
The American Idol season 23 audition episodes are now wrapping up as the contestants head into Hollywood Week. From there, they faced the judges for the Final Judgment, during which the Top 24 contestants were determined. Then, the Top 24 singers performed in front of a live audience for the first time at Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii on February 11 and 12, 2025, with singers Ashanti and Josh Groban serving as their mentors. According to MJSBIGBLOG, unofficial spoilers have revealed the American Idol season 23 Top 24 contestants, including the twelve who were mentored by Ashanti. They included Baylee Littrell, who's Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell's son, singing "Happy" by Pharrell Williams (auditioned with original song "Waiting on Myself to Die"); Breanna Nix singing "Still Rolling Stones" by Lauren Daigle (auditioned with Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel"); and Ché singing "Master Blaster (Jammin’)" by Stevie Wonder (auditioned with "Mirror" by Madison Ryann Ward).

Several Contestants Have Competed On Other Reality TV Singing Competition Shows
If some of the names on the list of the American Idol season 23 Top 24 contestants sound familiar, it's because several of them have competed on other reality TV competition shows. Two of them are alums of The Voice, including Thunderstorm Artis, who placed third on season 18 with Team Nick Jonas. However, Thunderstorm never had the chance to perform in a live show due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. In addition, Victor Solomon placed fifth on The Voice season 20 with Team John Legend.
In 2011, Drew Ryn placed sixth on The X Factor USA season 1 when she was 14 years old, while MKY competed on Boy Band season 1 in 2017. In 2022, Olivier Bergeron, who's French Canadian, competed in the Canadian singing competition Star Académie, making it to the semi-finals. It's intriguing that these contestants have been in singing competition series before, and it'll be interesting to see if they have an advantage over their fellow contestants who have less experience with the TV genre.
