Who The Heck Is Guard 44 In Squid Game Season 2? Why I Thought Kai Cenat Was On The Netflix Show, Explained
A rumor and a mistake almost had me believing that YouTube streamer Kai Cenat was a character in Squid Game season 2. With all the new characters introduced in Squid Game season 2, it wasn't entirely unreasonable that a masked guard could possibly be played by a prominent streamer. Stranger cameos have happened, like when Daniel Craig provided the voice of a stormtrooper in The Force Awakens. The masked guards with shapes on their helmets are as recognizable a style as the green jumpsuits in Squid Game.
So when I heard Kai Cenat would be behind one of the masks, I didn't think too much of it. Cenat is a YouTube streamer who consistently ranks among the top, and often at the top, of most subscribed Twitch channels. He's had a major impact on popular culture, allegedly coining the term "rizz" (via BBC), which can be heard in just about every middle school hallway and gaming voice chat room. Cenat's dabbled in prank videos, reaction videos, and gaming streams. He's even released a few singles. What he hasn't done is appear in Squid Games.
Kai Cenat Was Incorrectly Credited As Guard 44 In Squid Game Season 2
Cenat Helped Spread A Rumor That He Was Appearing In The Show
There was an internet rumor going around for a while that claimed Kai Cenat would be playing a character called "Guard 44" in Squid Game season 2. These claims mostly came from TikTok and, for the most part, were pushed by Kai Cenat himself. The videos showed a Google page with Kai Cenat listed as "Guard 44". Cenat reacted to these screenshots on @kai_cenat saying,
"Wait, y'all didn't know? Wait, I thought I told y'all. Yes, n***a, I was Guard #44, I was [the] n***a [that] was [getting] dumped over the steps. I did not get shot."
It's now clear that Cenat was just playing along with the hoax, as not only does he not appear in the show, but there is also no character called "Guard 44". The numbered guards in the show have occasionally done more than stand in the background, but they have been few and far between, Guard 11 being a notable example.

Squid Game Season 2’s Breakout Character Is A Reminder Of How Badly Sweet Home Wasted Park Gyu-young
Park Gyu-young’s Kang No-eul was one of the best new characters in Squid Game season 2, and that reminded me of how badly Sweet Home wasted her.
Cenat was just joking around with his stream in the manner in which he usually does, playing up a rumor as true. This would have been quite the historic cameo in the show. A Korean production, the series has never featured a cameo from a Western celebrity in its entire history.
Squid Game Season 3 Will Release In 2025
Kai Cenat Still Has A Chance To Play A Guard
Squid Game is coming back for season 3, and it will be the last season of the show, according to the showrunner, Hwang Dong-hyuk. The release date is set for June 27, 2025, a very quick turnaround for the series, considering the three years between seasons 1 and 2. Most of the main cast should be returning, with only a few major characters killed off at the end of season 2.
Squid Game season 3 is set to be an explosive finale between Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). Who knows, maybe Kai Cenat will be popping in as Guard 44 in one of the season 3 Squid Game episodes as well.
