Why Misty Burns The Photo Of Her, Shauna, Natalie & Tai In Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 3

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 3, "Them's the Brakes."

Yellowjacketsseason 3 spells trouble for Misty's relationships with the other survivors in the adult timeline, and there's a reason she burns the photo of them together in episode 3. Misty has always been an outsider in Yellowjackets, both before and after the girls' time in the Wilderness. While she becomes an integral member of the group after their plane crashes, she's hardly close friends with the other girls in Yellowjackets' past timeline. And they seem even more resistant to maintaining a relationship with her as adults.

Despite this, Misty still shoehorns herself into their lives — and to her credit, she does seem to show up when they need her most. But Yellowjackets season 3 looks like it could be a turning point in Misty's relationship with the adult survivors, particularly after episode 3. Misty burning the photo of herself with Nat, Shauna, and Taissa might seem extreme, but it's indicative of her character arc during this outing. And her argument with Shauna in episode 3 is really just the tip of the iceberg.

Misty Doesn't Think Shauna & Tai Are Her Real Friends (& She Already Lost Natalie)

Shauna's Harsh Words Push Her To Accept Walter's Accusations

Misty burning the photo in Yellowjackets season 3, episode 3 stems directly from her argument with Shauna in this installment, but her anger goes deeper than that. Shauna and Taissa are ignoring Misty's calls when season 3 opens, and Walter points out how poorly they treat her. Although Misty initially defends her friends, it seems Walter's accusations are getting to her. She's realizing that the other girls don't value their friendship nearly as much as she does. With Natalie gone, that's a particularly painful revelation for her.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Makes Shauna's Biggest Tragedy Even More Devastating

Shauna Shipman’s biggest tragedy in Yellowjackets happens at the end of season 2, and season 3’s opening episodes make it even more devastating.

This is something that seems to be lingering in her mind after Walter points it out, but Shauna's frustrations with Misty push her over the edge in "Them's the Brakes." Not only does Shauna accuse Misty of tampering with her brakes in this episode, but she says some pretty harsh things to Misty. She brings up Misty's role in Natalie's death and wonders what trauma could have made her the way she is. It's enough to convince Misty that Shauna isn't her real friend. And as she hasn't heard from Tai, she seems to have accepted the same about her.

Shauna Thinking Misty Tampered With Her Breaks Wasn't Actually That Ridiculous

While it's easy to feel for Misty — even after all she has done — Shauna's accusations in "Them's the Brakes" aren't actually that ridiculous. Misty is known for such antics, and she even tampers with Natalie's car when she's trying to force their friendship. It's not clear if Shauna knows about this incident, but she's aware of the lengths Misty is willing to go to in order to stay close to the other survivors. Misty also destroys the black box in Yellowjackets season 1, and there's a chance the other girls learn about that before the adult timeline as well.

Shauna may soon realize she needs Misty to get to the bottom of this incident, but it's hard to say how Misty will react after her anger in episode 3.

Of course, Shauna is a lot more cruel in her response to Misty's meddling than Natalie is, but that's all down to characterization. And it doesn't seem like Misty is the one who cut her brakes, leaving another mystery for Yellowjackets season 3 to solve. Shauna may soon realize she needs Misty to get to the bottom of this incident, but it's hard to say how Misty will react after her anger in episode 3.
