With James Gunn's Superman On the Horizon, DC Wants to Make Clark Kent More Accessible Than Ever

It's a big year for the Man of Steel and DC Comics is ensuring that Superman is about to be the most accessible hero around. The Summer of Superman is drawing closer and with James Gunn's reboot nearly here, exciting changes are coming for everyone's favorite Big Blue Boy Scout.

Dan Slott, writer of the upcoming series Superman Unlimited, spoke with AIPT regarding his anticipated new comic. He revealed a lot of details regarding his new series, including how The Daily Planet is being completely overhauled. Slott revealed new branches of the iconic newspaper are going to be in every corner of the globe, from Gotham to Themyscira, to give Superman's paper a foothold in all the major parts of the DCU.

As any Superman stan knows, this is a humongous year for DC's iconic superhero. Years after Clark Kent’s last cinematic outing, Superman is finally returning to theaters in James Gunn's upcomingreboot. But the excitement doesn't just end there as DC Comics has decided to capitalize on the hype surrounding this new feature film with a new marketing push known as the Summer of Superman. The initiative is a months-long effort that will see the publisher honor its world-renowned hero with new comics, both ongoing titles and miniseries, as well as one-shots and new directions for ongoing Superman-related titles.

Both DC and Dan Slott have promised big changes with the Summer of Superman, and they're already delivering on that front with these details alone. The idea of The Daily Planet expanding all over the DCU is an amazing idea. After all, a lot of news organizations have branches in multiple parts of the world, so why not the most iconic one in the DCU? Not to mention, this really sells the idea that Superman isn’t just the protector of Metropolis. Wherever there’s danger in the world, Superman will be there to stop it while The Daily Planet covers it.

Sure, Superman has senses that can alert him to trouble anywhere in the world. But he can’t maintain constant vigilance with every single community that could use him. The Daily Planet, on the other hand, can use its resources to keep an eye on the major parts of the DC Universe and, with Clark Kent being such a major figure at the news organization, he’ll be one of the first people to know when something is up somewhere. The Daily Planet’s upcoming changes are big ones, but they could lead to some great changes to how Superman operates.

Superman Unlimited #1 is available on May 21st from DC Comics.
