Your Favorite Manga Artists Are Making Comeback This Year, So Don't Miss Out

While 2025 has some amazing continuing manga that will no doubt be a highlight of the year, fans should be aware that quite a few highly successful manga creators are coming back with new series this year that look promising. These creators, who have made a mark on the manga industry, are poised to engage readers anew with new narratives that showcase both their lasting skill and development as artists.

While there is no doubt that this year a new generation of shonen will take the stage, like Gachiakuta, Choujin X, Ichi the Witch, and other newer series, these five upcoming manga should be on everyone's radar, and the successful names attached to them is just one of the factors. The plot and genre are certainly interesting and intriguing, and the authors have already demonstrated some incredible art that warrants their new works a look. From the creators of Beck, Usogui, Mushishi, Gantz, and Blood on the Tracks, five new manga are going to be published, with two of them already started.

Usogui's Creator Returns With an Intriguing Boxing Revenge Manga

Written and Illustrated by Toshio Sako

While this year has been controversial for Toshio Sako after some comments on X, it seems he is in a creative mood after recently announcing a new boxing manga with a very interesting plot. Titled Genikasuri, it follows Hariyama Ryo, who has awakened from a coma after a brutal boxing match. With his father dead, his boxing career over and his gym abandoning him, he plunges back into the boxing world as a promoter for revenge by manipulating the corrupt shadows of boxing.

The plot is interesting, focusing on the dark shadows of the boxing world in a psychological revenge thriller. Combined with Sako's extremely dynamic and detailed art, which is a reason for the fame and success of Usogui, Genikasuri has both the art and the plot. The first few chapters have just been published in Weekly Young Jump, Shueisha's home to its biggest seinen manga, like Kingdom, Tokyo Ghoul, Oshi no Ko, and more.

A New Rock Manga Is On Its Way

Written and Illustrated by Harold Sakuishi

The Band by Harold Sakuishi

The wildly talented and jack of all trades mangaka, Harold Sakuishi, has just started a new music manga that bears some big similarities to his previous work, Beck, the manga that spawned one of the best music anime, but also has its own heart that makes it unique and worth looking into. Titled The Band, it follows the young Araki who suffers from bullying at school and the grief of a beloved dead mother. He, however, finds solace and comfort in the guitar and manages to make his first friend, embarking on a journey of youth that features heartbreak and joy.

The plot is already very endearing and emotional, perhaps even more compelling than that of Beck. Just like his last work, Sakuishi is venturing into another music series with the guitar as the main focus. Furthermore, it seems there is more of an emphasis on personal relationships and struggles than in Beck, where a big point of the story was the protagonist finding joy in the guitar and in a band. Either way, the first chapter was great and featured a strong emotional hook, and The Band is certainly shaping up to be another hit on Harold Sakuishi's resume.

Mushishi's Creator Is Coming Back With Another Supernatural Manga

Another Urushibara Yuki Hit Is in the Making

While information about the series is scarce, Mushishi's creator, Urushibara Yuki, confirmed on X that a new series titledSuiheisen no Nera (Nera on the Horizon) will start serializing, and it will be a supernatural mystery. The story is about a young boy who suddenly appears in a world where the sea levels won't stop rising, and his connection to water and this phenomenon. As strange as it sounds, it is to be expected given that Mushishi also features a plot and world as unique as that.

Interestingly, the manga will be published in one-shots and short stories, meaning that there could be multiple protagonists. The series is scheduled to start serializing on February 25, 2025, in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon, the magazine where Mushishi was published and home of Vinland Saga and Houseki no Kuni. Chapter #1 was also released to have 155 pages.

Another Psychological Thriller Is on the Way

Mabataki no Oto cover-1

One of the best mangakas in the psychological thriller genre, Shuzo Oshimi, is making another interesting manga that will revolve around familial relationships. TitledThe Sound of a Blink - Mabataki no Oto, it focuses on Shuu and his twisted and warped relationship with his younger brother.

Any fan of his work can notice that this is eerily similar to Blood on the Tracks, an extremely disturbing manga that focuses on the twisted and despicable bond between an overbearing mother and her beloved son. It was praised as his best work, and it seems this new one will follow the same direction, much to the joy of fans. With his simple yet gorgeous artwork and brilliance when it comes to psychological dramas, Shuzo Oshimi has returned for yet another horrifying work.

Gantz's Mangaka Reveals a New Manga

Perhaps the most mysterious new manga of the bunch comes from Hiroya Oku, the creator of the sci-fi hit Gantz. He simply revealed a new manga that will be released this year but with no additional information. The only thing known about it is that it will be published in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine, home of Kiichi!, and Oku's other manga, Gigant. Given how infatuated he is with the sci-fi genre, evident in Gantz, Gigant and Inuyashiki, this new series could also have the same focus.

These five returning mangaka show a lot of promise with their new endeavors, and with the rock-solid fanbase they've garnered over the years, manga fans shouldn't be surprised if any of these series become hits. Besides the many great manga that are serialized this year, these should also be added to the read list as they hopefully become successful.
