Piotr Zielinski’s father Boguslaw confirmed that his son will stay in Serie A after leaving Napoli on a free transfer in the summer.
The 29-year-old Polish midfielder has entered the last six months of his contract in the Campania capital and is expected to leave in the summer, having refused a new deal with the defending champions.
In response to his decision, Napoli decided to take Zielinski off their squad list for the Champions League and there are now fears that he could be entirely frozen out of Walter Mazzarri’s squad for the second half of the season, similar to what happened with Arkadiusz Milik.
Speaking to Polska Agencja Prasowa via TMW, Zielinski’s father Boguslaw discussed his son’s plans for next season after his contract expires with Napoli.
“I think he has already made a decision, but I don’t want to pre-empt it entirely. However, Piotr will leave Napoli and continue to play in Italy. Piotr has been there since he was 16, he has a wife and son there, it’s now his second home.”
Zielinski is widely expected to put pen to paper on his pre-contract with Inter in the coming weeks, having agreed to sign a four-year deal worth around €4.5m net per season plus over €500,000 in add-ons.
