Cutting to a scene in a hospital, Whittaker's character has a child born with a physical deformity. She forms a group and begins a quest to confirm that toxins from local land reclamation are in their kids' bodies. Check it out below:
What This Means For Toxic Town
Toxic Town Blends Procedural & Personal
Toxic Town is based on a true story, with the trailer indicating that the narrative will blend a procedural story with a more personal narrative. On the one hand, it is of the utmost importance that the protagonists collect enough evidence and go through the proper channels to seek justice against those who allowed their town to be built up against a toxic waste site. On the other hand, the issue is an emotional trial for the lead characters, most of whom are parents who want the best for their children in a system that has failed them.
While Whittaker takes the lead in this trailer, Wood also plays a key role in Toxic Town. The actor got her big break playing Aimee Gibbs on the hit Netflix show Sex Education. She played a high school student exploring her sexuality and dealing with serious issues, such as sexual assault. Playing a young, concerned mother, Toxic Town appears to be a turn towards a more mature role for Wood. The show's events seem to take place over several years, so the acting demands for the role itself are also increasingly mature.
Our Take On The Toxic Town Trailer
Jodie Whittaker Is A Great Choice For This Role
It seems that Whittaker is in her sweet spot in the Toxic Town trailer. While she is perhaps best known for playing the Thirteenth Doctor in the hit BBC series Doctor Who, Whittaker was also a vital character in Broadchurch. In this series, she also played a concerned mother, who, in that case, was grieving the devastating loss of her child. She will apply her Broadchurch skills to this new role in Toxic Town, which also demands she play an intensely concerned parent who will do whatever it takes to seek justice.
