Who Yuri Is & How He Died In School Spirits
Warning: This article contains spoilers for School Spirits season 2.The new season of School Spirits finally introduces Yuri, and his death is already one of the show's biggest mysteries. While season 1 confirms that Split River High has plenty of teen ghosts, many of them are hinted at being trapped reliving their lives.New episodes of School Spirits add new ghostly allies to Maddie's (Peyton List) friend group, with actors Miles Elliot and Ci Hang Ma respectively playing Yuri and Quinn —a half-Russian kid who spends his days in the art room, and one of the marching band players.
At this point, it's unclear how the new characters of the School Spirits season 2 cast will play a role in explaining the storyline of Janet (Jess Gabor) and Mr. Martin's (Josh Zuckerman) experiments. However, they create exciting possibilities for all the mysterious deaths in School Spirits. Yuri is confirmed to have connections to Janet, to be clarified in the future as her whole history and ulterior motives are explained. AS he continues to get closer to Charley (Nick Pugliese), School Spirits can explore Yuri's death and how it connects to the show's larger mysteries.
Miles Elliot Plays A Ghost Named Yuri In School Spirits Season 2
Yuri Was Friends With Janet But Doesn't Believe In Crossing Over
In season 1, Yuri is said to be one of the ghosts trapped in a loop, and that he hung "out by the pottery wheel all the time" but only spoke Russian. Season 2 confirms that, yes, Yuri spends all his days making the same pot over and over, but he is fully aware of it. As the teens discover Janet's School Spirits'experiments are behind Maddie's death, they try talking to Yuri in case he knows something. While he initially pretends not to speak English, he later reveals he was Janet's friend.
If School Spirits plans another plot twist, Yuri could even be like Maddie, and not remember his death, or Janet could have killed him too.
When Charley questions him about knowing that Janet and Mr. Martin were studying the school's ghosts, Yuri confesses he doesn't believe in crossing over, so Janet would not talk to him about stuff like that. Instead, he says he spent decades trying to teach her how to make a pitcher and shows Charley one of Janet's bowls — which mysteriously doesn't reset after it breaks. This also explains why he didn't join Mr. Martin's counseling group for decades, as he thought the chemistry teacher was preaching nonsense.
Yuri Died In The 1970s, But School Spirits Hasn't Confirmed His Cause Of Death (Yet)
Yuri & His Story Might Be Key To Understanding The School Spirits Villains
As episode 3 confirms, the ghosts can enter the scars of the school by using their personal objects, future School Spirits episodes are set up to see Yuri enter the place where he died as he helps search for Mr. Martin. Though the series hasn't yet confirmed how this happened, Mr. Martin's scar map hints that Yuri died in the greenhouse, as the location is marked with a "Y." If School Spirits plans another plot twist, Yuri could even be like Maddie, and not remember his death, or Janet could have killed him too.
As School Spirits' Dawn (RaeAnne Boon) already crossed over, and she was the only other ghost from the 1970s, Yuri's death will remain a mystery until he talks about it. Considering his friendship with Janet, and Mr. Martin's interest in him, Yuri seems to be key to understanding the truth behind the School Spirits villains. He might also have heard of Janet and Mr. Martin's deaths while attending school, as they happened in the 1960s. Ultimately, School Spirits must eventually explain why he never leaves the art room as his relationship with Charley develops.
